But yeah. Them Argentinians were a bit "expressive", to put it mildly.

They were basically acting at the very borders of old school behavior, after having benefited over and over in the previous games from old school behavior no longer being tolerated.

On the side - kudos to their goalie. The guy held on with a broken finger and kept the result to what it was over and over and over.

He didn't trip him, he crashed into him not watching. The card was for not paying attention, not for deliberate aggression.

They all showed their colors after the game ended, but this card specifically could have gone both ways.

Maybe I don't know jack about soccer but I'm seeing Argentina commit a lot of personal fouls - grabbing Spains players and throwing them to the ground etc. But only spain is being called on committing fouls.

Plenty of Spains fouls weren't called either.

It was time to pay the piper for Argentina and they weren't too graceful about it.

I'm all for Messi ending a career with a bang, but not at the expense of everything fair. Plus they went feral after the game ended. Great example for their youth.

Yep, second yellow. I missed the first one also because I tuned into the game late. After the windmill fall, the ref held up the yellow first, then pulled out the red in a classic demonstration of a second yellow infraction.

Soccer may need to get a bit Americanized in order to become more popular at this side of the Ocean. Personally, I don't mind it.

Diego Maradona had said back in 2018, something like:
"Americans want to host a world cup again but want 4 half times by 25 min., instead of 2 by 45."

So, we literally witnessed it at this world cup and it wasn't a big deal. I'm sure it was No-No in 2018 and any time before and after until this summer.

I'm very American when it comes to soccer, meaning I played from age 6 to 14 then played American Football. I only watch the World Cup.

I love the game of football/soccer. All you need is a soccer ball to play. Great game.

Americans love aggressive high scoring sports. Watching a soccer player fall down and cry when barely touched is something many of us struggling to see.

Hockey players get their teeth knocked out and NFL players get wrecked every play but still play.

Does this mean that those sports teams have defenses that suck ? Or really good offenses ? It can go either way.... Also, American football uses arbitrary points for scores. Imagine if touchdowns were changed to (1) point and field goals to (0.5) points (yes, I know there's more scoring options). A game that was 28-17 would instead be 4 - 2-1/2. Already feels boring, huh ?
