Work anniversaries

Just passed 16 years. First job out of college, although I worked other jobs while in high school and college.

Sometimes I fear my prospects of moving up the ladder is more related to outlasting everyone else than actual competency.

Sometimes I feel rather proud of 16 years, seems like many of my colleagues job hop, looking for the best--but I've stuck with my job, to make sure the work gets done, right. Other times I wonder what I'm shorting myself of, and that it's really not that impressive.

UPS fulltime journeyman diesel mechanic since 1999. Biggest change in my job is the addition of CNG powered feeder trucks (UPS uses goofy 80 year old terminology for everything) aka semis.

I started at my job right out of college 5 years ago, and I plan on staying there until I retire. I've been working at my 2nd, part time job for 9 years now. I've only had 3 jobs in my life, 2 of which I'm still working at.

23 years then 13 years and now retired. Ed

Did 17 years in TV fresh out of college. Watched it go from standard-def tape to high-def automation, and three video subchannels per carrier. Also watched my dept go from 10+ men to 3. As a "craft" it got worse and worse as the job segued into keeping the computer servers happy and in line. I stuck it out as long as I did because the weird hours helped my child care situation.

Nuts to all that, so in Feb I got into an apprenticeship program fixing submarines for the Navy. Hoping for 20 years on this.

Nice job transition, eljefino. Isn't that a bit of a hike--aren't the subs a ways from Sebago region?
