Work anniversaries

Today is my 9th anniversary at the dealer. It is kinda weird having it on a weekend, my 10th will be on a weekend as well. Never thought I would be here this long.

How long has everyone been at their jobs? Seems like a lot of the younger crowd does not stay at jobs for long. My mom was with Raytheon for 42 years, so I guess it runs in the family.

Im 23, been at my job, for going on 3 years. Ive been the youngest there my entire time there. Never plan on leaving. (fortune 500 company). I've seen hundreds of 'temps' come and go, and im still here to their amazement. I love my job. Working my way up the ladder.

At 10 years at my job I'm about about 5th longest with the company out of 140 employees.

My wife is with her job 31 years and she is 7th longest out of 30 employees.

I work for a DOD contractor in support of SPAWAR and USMC. Been with this company for the last ten years. Been doing this type of work since 1981.

Started in the Industry in 1988, January 8th.

Have worked for 5 to 7 companies as we went from the state run Electricity Commission through to now private sector foreign owned.

Graduated, shipped out for 71 days, took a shore-side job afterward and have been here ever since.

Been in this job 7 months, but was previously here for 5 years, 2nd longest I've held a job, longest I've ever been employed in one place is 7 years. Started my apprenticeship in 1970, and left there as workshop foreman (would be called manager these days) in 1980....but had worked for him 4 or 5 times, I can't even remember. I'm 62 and still drifting from job to job...I'm a mechanic and they have always been in short supply. I counted them one time - 1970 to 1990, 20 years, and 20 jobs, from 1990 to now it's only been 7, that's because I had my own shop for 11 years.

My longest stay was 4 1/2 years. At current position for 2 weeks.

27 and been working for the railroad for 8 years this month

Started in August 1986, went into semi retirement in July 2008, and fully retired in December 2014.

15 years with my current employer, and plan to stay there until I retire...which is over 20 years away

19yrs with 19 to go. Ugh.

35 years this October. Started as a technician, at the time the company was privatively held. The company manufactures industrial equipment. The owner was a good and well respected man who had foresight to set the business up on the international level.

He retired and sold the company to a larger company but they were a good parent organization. During this time the company paid for my education and I progressed from technician to engineer.

Then our parent company was purchased by a large national corporation who at the time was expanding through acquisition. Fortunately, this parent corporation is also a good organization. I progressed to senior engineer.

It's been good work, varied, interesting and provided a productive outlet for my efforts. I've never dreaded Mondays, it's just the start to another week. Most mornings, while showering, I'll muse about what to accomplish that day. All in all, it's been good and I see myself as fortunate. Not everyone has had such favorable winds propel them through work-life.

I have been working on IBM mainframes since 1976. At IBM for almost 25 years. Still doing sysprog work, more specific security. There was a time mainframes looked dead, but they keep plugging along for the large financial corporations. I am hoping to work 4 more years then retire or PT. In 4 Yrs wife will have 30 years with NY as AAG.

I'm on my second stint with my current employer. I was hired in '99 and laid off early in '14 (supposedly due to lack of work, but that's another story). 7 1/2 months later, they magically found more work for me and I got my old job back...more or less. I've got about 16 years total now.

I'm into the 10th year of my retirement, but spent 30 years with the same company.
