Woodworking is fun

I love woodworking but hate rushing things because of dog and wife and life

Some stubby shelves 11”x12” for book shelf speakers in the office corners. 1x12 cherry laminated with red dyed epoxy resin. Walnut stain

That's a nice workbench. I would further affix it to the garage wall if you can with a couple screws to reduce wobble when you muscle things on it.

My style is to start with three 2 by 12s for the top and frame it solidly underneath. Then add a sheet of 1/4 inch plywood on top so the gaps don't give you problems.

If you really want to go top shelf, buy a section of used bowling alley wood for the top. They're expensive. I got mine for free.

And yes, properly mount a bench vice at one end of the top. Many people don't know how to mount a bench vise properly. The plane of the vice face surfaces needs to go beyond the edge of the bench. The base is nonsymmetrical for this reason.

Thanks, unfortunately I won't be able to screw it into the wall. I live in a townhouse so my upstairs neighbor may not like it. I have been looking at woodworking bench vises for my next one but I may mount a vise onto this bench if I could figure out how to not use it as a storage table.

That's very clean. Were you worried at all about the height changing as the epoxy dried?
In a way yes but I used 2 mm aluminum wire for spacing so it kept the surfaces parallel then I also used a mess of clamps

The only fail were a couple voids that didn’t show until cut to size, so I mixed a fresh batch and meticulously poured it in edgewise. Real pain!

I made shelves for the garage today and the three shelves are the same height as the three levels of the workbench, so I can stretch out storage or work space. I'll be adding diagonal braces on the back and sides later tonight or tomorrow. How did I do?

Very solid shelving! I think you could fill that with car batteries!
It sounds like you've got limited garage space so putting things on wheels or hanging from the ceiling might help you out.
I like just figuring out how to make things out of wood, but I'm not much of a craftsman. I just like wood because its nearly free and easy to shape, so I'm just eyeballing where I put screws etc...

The roof racks here are just popular 1x6's we cut from a tree at my place with some u bolts to attach to the car rack tie downs and some cheap kayak holders from canadian tire, and the trailer cover is some 2x4's with some tarp left from ends of my hoop barn which made some water proof storage and a decent two bike holder that can take some beating of a bouncing trailer.
At one campground I had a fellow Outback owner come and look at the roof rack as the thule options for the same thing are near $1k...
I think he was mostly impressed that I just didn't care it wasn't black metal and plastic and just made something that worked for a few dozen dollars.

I tried making a box similar to that for chisels and practice....I couldnt get my half laps properly 90° at all. What did you use for yours?
All of my work is on a rather crude 60 year old Craftsman 10 inch model 113.xxxxxxx table saw, not even using a dado blade. I do make sure to use a square to adjust blade and miter gauge alignment. VERY slow. Diablo thin kerf blades are an excellent value for a saw like this. They hit an excellent quality/price point.
