Are you sure, or are you making a sexist assumption? Since he quoted a reference to curling, it would be topically proper.
Meant to say I "don't" think....

Yeah, that's what I took as your meaning. My point is, isn't this the perfect example of it being a lot easier to "jump on the band-wagon" and assume the worst possible interpretation? Looking at it without a prejudiced mind, and a bit of knowledge, would indicate that the statement isn't necessarily sexist. It does highlight how some choose to interpret things with a certain bent, though.

I preferred the 46-0 Sweden-Columbia game.

46 being, of course, the number of sitters missed.

For me soccer is a great game to watch if you know about the game. I can't stand to watch baseball or golf though. For some reason though soccer has never caught on in the states. I think a lot of it is because sports commentators usually just stick with the baseball, football, basketball and golf. Our local newspaper sports guy didn't even consider soccer as a sport.

It's gaining recognition because of South Africa 2010. Never in my life have I seen so many people at the pubs cheering for team USA. USA in South Africa was so popular in my area, all of the stores ran out of USA soccer jersey's, which never happened before. All of the pubs and bars opened early and served breakfast beers and alcohol(not joking). Because of the USA soccer team, I'm becoming a loyal fan of soccer and the US soccer team. I'm happy to see more and more people watching soccer in this Baseball and Football obsessed country.

Watch this:

Football(Soccer) Brazil Beautiful Game.

The most entertaining team ever played in World Cup is Brazil of 1970. Watch the video of Pele and Brazil in WC 1970, then you will understand why the world(outside USA) went crazy every 4 years.

True!!! BTW: Brazil(Women) is playing next today.

I have to add another Men vs Women soccer player comparison in the World Cup.

1. In Women's professional soccer, the goal attempts are extremely higher than men's. When they're near the goal, they usually miss. In Men's soccer, they are more likely to kick in a goal.

Soccer will not take off here because it doesn't translate well to our media which run on commercial breaks.

Football, basketball, baseball and hockey all have events that allow broadcasters to take a commercial timeout.

Soccer doesn't have the same stoppages in play, so no commercials. Therefore, little or no interest in televising games every day relative to other sports.

Happy Birthday. Yeah but..to make it up, they have advertisements on the sidelines and computer images near the goalie post. It does work. One game a while ago had a Heineken sign and it made me thirsty. At halftime, I ran to the store and bought a 6-pack of Heineken.

Up next: Blue and Yellow vs Green and Yellow!!!

Other than a few games in college and perhaps one or two MISL games in STL, most of my soccer viewing was watching one of our kids play.

I don't think folks transition from watching their kids play to watching it on TV or in a professional setting.

Sure, they have the ads on the boards. But do the broadcasters get paid for those, or does the arena sell that ad space? If the broadcasters are not getting paid, why would they carry soccer?

Also it would need to compete for the $$$ against Baseball, Football, and Basketball. I can't see it breaking into any of those bariers anytime soon.

As the immigrant population grows (mainly Hispanics)..it would have a willing audience. But as a group, they don't have the disposable dollars to support the venues (stadiums/players, etc)

You saw these discussions at least 30 years ago and in that time soccer has made little headway.

Even F1 drivers don't like women's football.

ROFL! The PC police have taken over. The irony is that most people would've never even heard Rosberg's opinion, about women's soccer, if they hadn't screamed it from the ramparts of political correctness.

The truth is that some games suck and some are awe-inspiring, regardless of who the participants are.

That's the second time someone here has compared Women's soccer to MLS.

Seriously, some folks should check the Sounders attendance records.

Most of the MLB teams would kill for those kinds of numbers. More than a few of the teams from the other "mainstream" sports would do likewise.

If anyone is ever in the area during the season, see a Sounders game. It's an experience.

Bummer is, I haven't see one women cup game yet this time. I will watch USA Sat AM.

You may have had an argument 20 years ago.

But now, we have FOX and ESPN fighting over international rights. We have not only dedicated channels to the sport, but a sizable amount of the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, MLS, and some La Liga.

Not to mention all major events, including events like the Women's World Cup.

There are cultural issues still at play, but the commercial viability of the sport has been solved.

To be quite honest, I think several members of this discussion just don't have a clue as to what they are talking about.

To say the sport has made little headway in 30 years is like suggesting the moon really is made of cheese. A small market just spent 200 million on a dedicated soccer venue. A dozen years ago, there were no dedicated soccer venues in this country, and the thought of spending 30 million on one seemed like a risky investment.

All I can say is, some people in this discussion obviously do not follow the sport.

The best one to date, imo, has been Brazil vs Australia simply because so many of these teams lack even the basic ability to string 3 passes together. However, even in that game, the lack of any ability to finish is killing this tournament.

I would rather sit and watch the grass grown than watch soccer! I didn't mind playing it in school gym class but I just can not sit and watch a game on TV. It is just too boring to me.
