I just purchased a few 7620XE Wix / Napa from fleetfilter. How do they compare with the fleetguard strapore?? 5.9 Dodge cummins. Any tech data available? Thanks ,doug

Fleetguard would be the OEM filter, as they are owned by Cummins.

Stratapore is a 100% synthetic media.

7620XE is a blended media of cellulose and synthetics. 14 micron nominal filter.

Stratapore is more than synthetic media, it's also a layered media with large particles being filtered on the outside layer, medium size particles on middle layer, and small particles on inner layer. It allows a higher flowrate and dirt holding capacity than normal synthetic media. I highly recommend Stratapore Fleetguards over everything. I uses it on my Cummins N14, My 2001 7.3 powerstroke, and even my 94 Z28.

FG, curious if you know the micron rating for the Stratopore and the regular Wix 1670 for a Cummins? What is the practical difference between the three?
Thanks

I don't know..

But like anyone else I can call Fleetguard..

There are two Fleetguard oil filter part numbers for the Cummins engine..

LF3349 this is a blended media filter. Which has a 30 micron rating at Beta 20.

LF3552 is the fully synthetic media ( Stratapore ). It has a 30 micron rating at Beta 75.

From memory this would make the Wix LF3349XE similar to the 7620 14 micron rating nominal.

The LF3552 would be closer to a 10 micron nominal.

Hope that helps..

Hmmm....

Since you're using it on a passenger car, I assume a Stratapore equivalent for a Motorcraft FL820S might be available. What's the URL for their website?

I like the concept of multiple filter layers. Performance wise, how do Stratapore filters compare to Amsoil EA filters?

The Wix 7620XE is a Fleetguard rebox. We use (the Wix) them at the shop and I checked the mounting plate and internals. Exact same number stamped into the faceplate. Internals, exactly the same. I am 99.9% positive at this point that Wix contracts this particular filter to Fleetguard. We used to get the stratapore from our Cummins dealer but when I found the 7620XE from NAPA we began sourcing it there with our other filters. Wix seems to build the other Cummins part numbers in house.

Isn't that interesting, I called the Wix tech dept. The only thing he would say is that it is a direct crossover & that it will do the same job.

I would think that this is pretty big news. Anyone care to comment or elaborate on this subject. thanks ,doug

Do all the Fleetguards have the Stratapore media? They have a direct replacement for the L20073 in their part number LF716. They didn't say, but anyone know how small a particle (in microns) these guys filter out?

Sounds like just the ticket!

Stratopore is a separate series of filters from the regular Fleetguard. Think of it as the same relationship as Pure One is to Purolator Premium Plus.

Thanks, Russ..

I called em, nominal filtration on these things is 30 microns, not suitable for gas engines, I don't think. It's PureOne or Amsoil if you want filtration in the ten-micron range. Amsoils trap down to 7 if I'm not mistaken.

Which of course, is what I'm after.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but is anyone able to confirm this statement?

I'd be happy to cut them open and compare them, but I'm in the middle of a move right now and can't really afford it.

Regards,
Carter
