I purchased a Wix air filter for my wife's GTP. Instead of the usual black, the seal around the element was orange. Ok, now did I miss something?? It looks exactly like a Fram. It said Wix on the filter itself though.

What gives??

Maybe someone swapped filters and boxes. Put the Wix filter in the Fram Box and Fram in the Wix box. Then bought the Fram box with the Wix Filter in it.

No worries. I used a wix in our 99 Grand Am to replace a fram. Both had orange seals, but the media was distinctly different.

BTW... fram air filters actually look to be decent quality.

For some reason Wix is making their filters orange. I don't know why, but they are. On a similar note, some Fram filters are black.

Same thing happened to me. Bought the Wix at a place that only sells Wix, looks EXACTLY like a Fram. And it doesn't fit my car tightly, have to force the airbox shut. Didn't use it. Will continue to use the Pepboy's Proline brand (same as Purolator).

Same here. Bought a NAPA Gold (Wix) filter yesterday. Orange rubber seal like the Frams. However, the filter media is distinctly different than Fram (more pleats and missing the orange "triad" fibers). The seal is also different. It is more "rubbery" as upposed to the look and feel of the Fram that is closer to foam than actual rubber.

I just put a wix conical filter in my 98 f150.

I opened the famililiar wix black and yellow box, to see a glowing orange filter.

I thought, no way this isn't a fram.

I had to keep telling myself that.

Wix went from a black polyurethane compount to an orange compound that seals better, resists hardening/cracking and seals the pleat block better.

It seems that most filter manufacturers are specing their filters and buying from various sources.

If you went shopping for an air filter for a 4 cyl. Nissan Frontier you'd find Fram/Napa Gold/Purolator are all selling the same South Korean filter. My previous Napa Gold for this engine was made in Thailand.

I put a Fram fuel filter on my truck that was made in Israel. (They deal with dust so no worries)

I won't use fram oil filters but their other products are probably fine, or the same as the competition.

PS - the Napa Gold air filter for my wife's Subaru has the orange seal. They are good filters.
