I bought a couple of the wix racing filters model 51515r.

Cut one apart and was not impressed at all with the internals. Its a $10 piece of crap.

I also wrote Wix for its micron specs and got back:
"its about 40 microns."

Replied and asked for nominal and absolute measures the second time and the tech claimed that Wix does not do those tests. ***?

Wont be buying anymore wix.

If anyone is interested I will post a pictures.

I would like to see some pics. I wouldn't expect phenomenal filtration from a racing filter, but what is it about the construction that makes you think they are crap? Where do you find them?

The reply you received from WIX is very different from what I've received. When I sent multiple questions regarding their oil filters, WIX was very responsive, even though I had multiple follow-on questions. Additionally the information they provided was very specific, even specifying their preference for BETA rating over simple Multi-pass results.

I'm also equally surprised about your evaluation of the filter upon cutting it open. The base model WIX is a very well-constructed filter, that BTW is very highly regarded not only on this website by many other automobile-focused sites.

I'd think, though I don't have any specific data, that the WIX racing line of filters would be of higher quality than their regular lineup. Their base models have an absolute/BETA micron rating of 29 microns.

Maybe you should give them another try? Email them via their website and see if the response is any different.

I did email them by their website and that was the reply I recieved.

I was disappointed because the filter was supposed to be the same quailty as their t10 media and was advertiesed to have the same features but more efficiency, which resulted in less flow.

The filter was billed as having all the features of the filter with the t71 media. It does not. No wire mesh backing.

High efficiency and 40 microns is an oxymoron also. They should be billed as we flow like you wouldnt believe but dont filter very good at all.

I will post some pics.

According to my calipaer
wix filter can .024 inches thick
baldwin filter can .20
donaldson filter can .014

Furthermore, the filter bottom only had six holes of .247 diameter. the baldwin had 8 of .250 diamter, a 1/3 increse in flow area into the filter.

The wix racing was a special order item at a local carquest.

Here are the pictures:

From left to right, all are fl1a eqivalents:

Donaldson p169071, baldwin b2-hpg, wix 51515r.

The base plates are baldin on left, wix on right.
