Wipe Out Copper Remover

After hearing rave reviews about Wipe Out foaming bore cleaner, I decided to try it out. I have an old Tokarev SVT rifle with layers of copper fouling in the barrel, perfect candidate for testing this stuff on. I filled the bore with the Wipe Out foam, let it soak for 4 hours, then patched it out. What came out of the bore was an amazing amount of blue-colored crud--the copper fouling had been liquified. This is much better than I expected, most copper solvents remove very little of the fouling. Even Sweets and Barnes CR-10 couldn't touch this stuff. I had used them previously on this same rifle.
The only thing I didn't like about Wipe Out is that it will remove the finish on wood stocks unless you get it off quickly.

Hey 416Rigby that is good to hear. I was over at the store today and almost bought the stuff to... dang it. I got Hoppe's copper solvent instead. Wish I read your post before heh. Ah well looks like I know what to get for next time.

I have a Pistol that could use that. My 44Mag is a bear to clean copper fouling out.

I use the competive brand sold at walmart. It is marked by outers. If you read the can it is actually made for outers by some outfit in Europe. It is basically the same as wipe out. This stuff is awesome and it has made my collection of solvents obsolete. Take a look in my garage and I've got about 3 years supply of various cleaners that are now just something I gotta use up on something.

If you don't believe. Take any firearm you have and you think it has a clean barrel. Shoot some foam bore cleaner down it - either wipeout or the outers - and let it sit for a half hour. Patch it dry and you will be dually impressed with the results.

For those with scoped rifles after cleaning with this it will change you POI for the first three shots as the cleaner will literally strip every bit of copper out of your bore.

I've also had very good luck with the Outers spray foam. Makes copper cleaning easy. I've heard Wipe-Out is supposed to be even better, though.
