Winterforce or Traction T/A?

This might be like comparing apples to oranges...I recently picked up a cheap, steel + hupcap OEM set for my Fusion. My current 17" Falken 912s are horrible in the smallest of snow. I was planning to purchase a set of dedicated winter (Firestone Winterforce) tires locally for ~$77/ea + mounting/balancing, etc. I live in KC -- where we typically have ice, and the occassional 2-5" of snow (or more). I could also get a set of BFG Traction T/A (T speed-rated) for $77/ea installed/mounted/balanced at Costco. The BFGs would be cheaper, last longer, and better driving for dry conditions. I've never had a dedicated snow tire. Which would you get? I drive 47 mi./day (mostly freeway).

Get the Winterforce. You'll be happy you did.

I've got a set of winterforce on separate rims for my 2005 Corolla and they work very well.

I did not get the studs as I drive 50plus miles one way and everytime I've had studs, the studs loose their effectiveness quickly. Plus they make driving on wet or dry roads less than stable.

I'd buy them again.

Winterforce are loud & don't handle that well.

But once in in the snow.... everything changes. It is an excellent winter tire. Traction in the snow is really good-- the best bang for the buck you can get.

If you run a set of dedicated winter tires, the Winterforce are hard to beat in the bang for the buck category.

Thanks everyone. I think I will be better off with a dedicated snow tire. I actually stopped at Costco today. I can get the BFG Winter Slalom for around $67/ea installed (with coupon). I think I will go with them. People seem to like them as well.

I loved the winterforce tires I had. IMO the 235/70/15s I had handled as well as most other all season tires in that size. No stability issues up to 112mph. They weren't all that loud either. Especially in the dry months when I ran them.
