The beam blade is a single piece that is basically designed like a spring with a single tension. As the arc changes, the blade would have to either lose pressure in the middle or lose pressure at the edges. The conventional design, with its cascading division of pressure points via articulated joints allows it to put pressure evenly across the length, even as the arc changes.
I'm not saying the beam blade is junk, I'm saying that the theory doesn't match it's fame. With its slim profile I can see its usefulness in winter icing conditions though.
I'm guessing the beam blade elastomer is considerably more pliable than the conventional blades, and that this feature is the key to its performance.
