Yesterday I hauled my new General Altimax Artics to Wal-Mart to be mounted on my stock steel Honda wheels. Price for this was $62/change and this included disposal of the worn out all seasons that were currently mounted. I dropped them off around 8:30AM and the tire guy said they would be done 1 1/2 hours, that was fine with me as I was in no hurry at all. Tire guy calls me 1 hour later to tell me one of the stock TPMS sensors is bad and asked what I wanted to do. I told him I would call the Honda dealer up the street and see if they had a new one in stock.
I did call the local dealer and while on hold for parts I also searched online with my phone. The parts guy finally picks up and after a few minutes tells me "yes we have them in stock" Great I say, what is the cost? He tells me $65.99. I about fell over, I did find OEM monitors on Amazon for $19.99 + free delivery. I politely told the parts guy no thanks and hung up.
I called Wal-Mart tire guy back to inform him I couldn't get a OEM unit to him today but explained that I had just ordered it online. He tells me no problem, bring the wheel back when I receive the new monitor and he will install it for no additional charge.
For anyone else that needs to replace Honda TPMS sensors don't purchase them from a dealer unless you like being robbed or you dealer sells for much less then my local place.

My new tires mounted and I was happy with Wal-Mart's service.

Nice tires. I got mine on last week. Mine are studded. got them with rims that are made for my car for 250$ also balanced. I have no tire pressure monitors so no problem there.

$62 isn't bad. Most shops in my area charge $20/ea for basic mount/balance.

I do wish you luck with the wheel sensor. I tried a pair of non-dealer sensors in our 2008 Honda Odyssey. Several hours in the tire shop and several programming devices later, they still couldn't get them to work. Gave up and used rubber valve stems and lived with the dash light. No way I was going to spend hundreds of dollars at the dealer for a pair of Honda sensors + programming.

I have the tool to program the sensor ID's into the ECU. This is another deal were the dealer would charge me $100 to program them every summer/winter wheel switch.
The tool is the ATEQ QuickSet TPMS Reset Tool from Amazon.

I would have paid the $65 and been done with it. I'm lazy like that. Then again, it doesn't seem that long ago these sensors were like $100, so $65 sounds to me like a deal.

The new sensors I purchased on Amazon ARE Honda OEM units, just 1/3rd the cost of purchasing from my local dealer. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009G533OU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went through the aftermarket TPMS problems myself. In the spring of this year I purchased new summer wheel/tire package from tire rack with new aftermarket sensors. When I ordered the package I wrote in the special instructions section that I needed the sensor ID's because I had the tool to program them into the ECU but NOT the tool to read them after installation. Tire rack did not send me those ID's however so that would have been a additional charge from my Honda dealer. Didn't matter in the end because the sensors they installed were not compatible with my car anyhow. I had the Honda service writer print up a invoice stating the sensors are not compatible with my car, I then scanned the document and e-mailed it to Tire rack and they refunded the entire purchase price of the sensors.

Not saying this is the case but parts fraud is becoming more of a problem, so I would be wary of "OEM" parts that are priced too good to be true. This sounds like a typical stealership price situation though.

You're on top of it, then.

I have my Blizzacks ready to go on the Sierra 4X4. I got some matching 'take-off' wheels on eBay. I didn't even contemplate the TPMS valves for the $80 or so cost per fire. I plan to just live with the dash caution.

I let On-Star expire, so they won't be bugging me. Since I check pressure, the monitoring system is not high on the list of necessities. That's my plan anyway.

That's a familiar thread pattern. Search google with "Gislaved Nordfrost 3", old tyre molds are circulating around

Yeah, I'm running Continental DWS year round, excellent snow tire this year. Very happy to have not slowed down or got stuck.
