2015 Audi Q5 TPMS Sensor Question

I'm thinking of picking up a second set of wheels and tires in the same size from a 2012 Q5 and started thinking about what to do about the TPMS sensors. I plan on running the tires on the 2012 set until they are worn out and then put new tires on my current wheels and sell the 2012 wheels and recoup some of the cost. Or maybe I'll keep the 2012 set and use them for winter tires.

I cannot find an answer on what it would take to program the sensors from the 2012 set so I don't have a dash light for the next 3 years. Are programmed sensors (I'm assuming that they are OE ones) able to be reprogrammed? Or is the relearn process easy enough on the 2012 set that I could do it? Maybe Discount Tire would do that for me?

The Q5 groups I'm in really didn't have answers which I found disappointing. Thanks everyone.

No, a 2012 Audi A6 does not use TPMS sensors within the wheels themselves. Instead, it uses an indirect TPMS system that relies on the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) wheel speed sensors to detect low tire pressure. This system monitors wheel speed differences to determine if a tire is underinflated.

I would assume your Q is the same. Learned this about my 2016 VW Passat

You have spent too much time with Asian and American vehicles.

VW group uses two ways to notify the driver:
1. All Euro cars with TPMS have automatic registration. Both BMW and VW I have register automatically sensors on different wheels when I switch from winter to summer tires or summer to winter. Same goes for BMW wheels with track tires, I have. On Toyota, well, it requires a trip to Discount Tires when I switch wheels in spring or fall.
2. ABS sensor. ABS sensor picks up wheel rotation, and if it notices that one wheel is out of sequence, it notifies you that that wheel is a problem.

Thank you for the great answer. 5th Audi but the first one newer than 2005 thus the question.
If I do pick up this set I'll throw them on and see what happens.

If it has TPMS and you get light, don’t think it needs registering. Maybe sensors are old.
Also, unlike my BMW, my VW needs some time to pick up signal, so go for some tide where you will develop speeds over 50mph for 5-10min.

If you're just using the old wheels for winter, you can totally live with that annoying yellow light 😂 (I did it for 3 years!). The money saved could buy you two tanks of gas. But if you're a perfectionist, grab aftermarket TPMS sensors.

On ebay you can find OE sensors for like $60 for all 4.

Real OEM? My friend got these kind of OE sensors on eBay, and they stopped working after just six months of use.
Yep, real OE. I got for Tiguan in 2013 for winter set. They are though starting to fail. Got another set of tpms on ebay and need to put them.
