Back when I first got my 02 intrigue I did a ps flush with value craft ps fluid. It always ran great, no whine what so ever. Now that the cold weather is upon michigan the flow rate of the ps fluid has been effected greatly. Every time I start my car when it's cold I hear a loud whine from the ps pump. I thought it was just low on fluid so I opened the qt I had sitting in the back seat, when I started to pour it was like pouring molasses. What are some ps fluids that are great cold weather performers?

Amsoil ATF or their PS Fluid depending on application.
We get very cold her normally in the winter and I can tell you my trucks and cars power steering is smooth when it's
Funny to see the rest of North America deal with cold weather. I guess if you've never lived in it (lucky) it can be quite a surprise?

Unaware of other options I put M1 Dex ATF in a while back (5+ years.) Significantly better.

Believe the whine is the pump cavitating on the fluid. If it's only like this every once in a couple years I wouldn't actually worry, unless your OCD gets the best of you.

I've put Amsoil (ATF for me) in my last 3 cars and it's been perfect whether it's a hydraulic system with engine driven pump or the electric pump on my new 3. Even held up to autocrossing on a miata.

Pentosin CHF11S & CHF202 might be a better fit (assuming they're compatible). Extremely high viscosity indexes of 300+ means they should handle low temps well.

Yellowknife Ca, I have a minor persistant whine in my GM truck, have Redline PS fluid but haven't changed out yet. Heard that a dash of Ford friction modifier helps a buit. Mostly need custom hydraulic lines made here as oe blow up after a few years.
