Winter Force tires are the best value snow tire

They are excellent on snow, soso on dry and decent on wet...
The noise level is higher than other winter tires...
The best is price!

So? Ford-Firestone incident is due to Ford's recommendation for running lower pressures on the Ford Explorer.

Back to the Winterforce. Had them on my old Golf. Definitely great in the white stuff.

Though this year, trying out the slightly more expensive General Altimax Arctic. Definitely quieter than the winterforce tires. White stuff??? I'll have to see.

I had Blizzak REVO1 on my Subaru Outback. Unstoppable. Between the Subaru AWD and winter tires, you couldn't be any safer unless you left the car in the garage and didn't venture out.

Same with my Outback and Goodyear Triple treads. One day it took 5 1/2 HOURS to go one way to work during a storm and I passed EVERYTHING that was stuck. 4x4 trucks, studded tired FWD and RWD cars. Just amazing how it did on the steep roads.

I'm driving the old school subaru these days. Shift on the fly, dual range 4x4 tranny. Somehow I prefer it to the AWD Legacy I used to own. After last years heavy snow fall, I didn't want to take any chances this year in case we really get some bad weather.

Inaccurate. But you're allowed your opinion.

Goodyear made a tire to the same Ford specs which only failed at a fraction of the failure rate of the Firestone, at the same 26 psi.

Problem was, the Goodyear tire cost Ford a few percent more.

A better tire, while still being an excellent value is the General Altimax Arctic (aka Gislaved Nord-Frost 3). The Winterforces are much better than an all-season in the snow/ice, but they are nothing special. They are getting quite old actually. TireRack put studs on a set of Winterforces and they were worse on the ice than the newest studless tires out there.

Anyway, I'm just glad you guys are using winter tires, no matter the make or model

I too get the sense that the Winterforce is the bare minimum, lowest common denominator in a lot of tire tests.

It's one thing to be impressed with a Winterforce compared to (possibly worn out) all seasons, but it would be another to be impressed compared to other higher-end snow/winter tires.

Either way, even if they're winter force, do yourselves a favour and get winter tires if you actually experience winter in your area.

Same experience here. I had Bridgestone EL42 (I think - can't remember for sure the model) on a 2006 Honda Odyssey, and they might as well have been racing slicks in the rain/snow. On the other hand, the Blizzak Revo1 that I had were a great winter tire.

Aren't Brigdestone and Firestone corporate twins? I don't see what exploding tires from a decade ago have to do with a current tire offering.

On snow at least i feel that winterfoce is as good as x-ice IMO...

It definitely could be as snow performance seems to be tied a bit more to tread design than rubber compound. The NAF (Norway) winter tire tests show performance studless winters with their harder rubber to be very similar to the more aggressive standard studless tires in snow performance. It's the ice test where the softer, standard studless tires seem to really shine.

You're making a generalization that all Firestone tires are prone to tread separation. That is inaccurate, but you're allowed your opinion.

Firestone tires have been OE tires on countless vehicles, however the tread separation issue was notably found on the explorer was reasons already stated.

I just bought a set of 4 Winterforce UV's for my Expedition. It was down to a set of the Firestones or Blizzak DM-Z3's, but the Firestone store wanted $35 more per tire for the Blizzak's, and I only need the winter tires for this year and next winter maybe, so I went with the value option. I currently have a set of Winter Dueler DM-Z2's, but they are 8 years old and have only 1/2 the tread remaining so it was time.

With state tax included, the price at the local Firestone store was within $1/tire of the delivered Tire Rack price, so I bought 'em at the store instead. I've run the older Firestone Winterfire snow tire on some of my other cars, and was pleased enough with them, so I think I made a good decision.

So I put these tires on the wagon yesterday. No snow yet, but looks like the temps will be dropping down for the winter season now. Very pleasantly surprised at how quiet these tires are on the road. I was expecting at least a little humming on the pavement but they may be a bit quieter than my all-seasons. They definitely are softer and have a higher rolling resistance, but not quite the compromise I was expecting.

waiting for some snow now!

put abit more air in them.

my factory manual even says put 4# more air in snow tires.
