windshield repair

has anyone tried to repair their own windshield?
does it work well, how does it look? i have a couple of chips i want to take care of.

Here, insurance covers repairs 100% and most people don't know it. If the damaged area can be covered with a quarter, it can be repaired professionally on the insurance.
Replacement is another story.

yea, i called insurance and i have a $50 deductable. the kit is $7. if the chip spread i'll get a new winsheild.

My insurance doesn't cover anyting with the windshield. I did the chip repair kit. It basically forces some kind of super glue into the crack to hold it from spreading further. Used different kit but probably similar. Been a year and no further cracking. Good thing as I just replaced it a month before the chip.

Looooooooooooong time ago....
Even the Pros, it can be bad or good, depends on two factors, IMHO... The Size/ chip and the installer and or additives to the windshield like Rainex or the such.

Oftentimes... it will be barely seen or very easily seen, but the objective is to stop the growth. Many of the FREE places will do two for 20.00 or 10.00 each if you agree to bring every chip you get int them for repairs.
I put a lot of miles on and on my new ride I have already used a Pro here and although I can still see a lot of it it stopped the growth.
To me it's worth more to pay the 10.00 than to eat a hit to my insurance. It may be worth waiting if the crack doesn't grow... to get two chips or cracks, that way 20.00 usually covers both...

Don't use rainex though.... hint: harder to repair.
