Bingo. Unless you're playing a bunch of Windows only games or have invested heavily in or truly need other proprietary Windows software, there's not a lot of point.
I still remember being told a few years back that a security camera system can't be done on Ubuntu.

Just downloaded Windows 10 (from Windows 7) a few hours ago. It's not seamless depending on your hardware. It took me another hour to find a work around for my graphics card that wasn't compatible, and then another adjustment for the speakers that quit working after the upgrade as well.
I assume these are all common issues-since a google search provided plenty of info on others having the same issues and the solutions for those issues.

I'm happy with W10, Linux Mint, Android and my Chromebook. Guess I am easy to please?
My W10 machine was an upgrade from 7, very easy transition and it has been stable since June or July - I upgraded on the second or third day it was released. No complaints.

I tried that a few months ago, luckily before I was going to reinstall 7 anyways. Didn't work out. 10 couldn't finish installing, and it was unable to restore 7. As I said, I reinstalled 7, so no loss, but if your rig is working ok on 7, I'm not sure its worth the time and effort to upgrade. No, I don't think you are alone at all. I'm suspecting that having 10 preinstalled on new hardware would be a different story, however.
I have similar concerns about upgrading to Win 10...

Should I do the BIOS upgrades? when I look under the system update, almost all bios updates are for preparing for Win 10.
Also, can I backup my SSD like a normal HD using Macrium Reflect ?

WEIRD:[/u] None of our laptops are on Lenovo's Win 10 supported list anymore. (they were there before, and all the BIOS updates to prepare for win 10 are gone too - again, they were there before).
Windows still nags me to upgrade to 10 and says my laptop is "good to go" after checking for compatibility...

1. Will I be able to import my email folders and messages from Windows 7 Live Mail, to whatever is the email program on Windows 10? (I can't even find what Windows 10 uses for an email program)
2. Will I be able to import my "Favorites" (Bookmark file) from Windows 7 Internet Explorer 11, to Edge in Windows 10?
I am still amazed that I get the best computer information and advice on BOB IS THE OIL GUY. Thank you for your help.

I use Firefox, but if you look at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/add-view-organize-favorites#ie=ie-10 this page, it tells you how to export your IE bookmarks, and then import them as well. I can only suggest that when you export your current IE bookmarks (on your Win7 computer), you save them to your desktop. then, email that file to yourself. When you get the Win10 computer, log into your email account. Or, you can save the bookmarks file to a DVD or USB drive. Any way it should work the same.

I agree. I'd also take an additional step of creating an image of the fresh 7 install, then do all the updates, then create another image. This way, if you're not able to go back to 7 from 10 for some reason, you're covered.

Sounds like desktop linux........ in 1998.

Just keep programs and you can still use live mail. Everything stays if you tell it to keep existing settings and programs. You won't lose a thing.

Update-on my Windows 10 install. I found it very irritating all my different mail boxes couldn't be integrated in to my Windows inbox. Also, it took the computer about 7 seconds to "wake up" after it went to sleep after switching to Windows 10. So-I used the Windows 10 feature to go back to Windows 7 Professional. I expect by the end-of-life of Windows 7 I will be getting a new computer anyway.
I messed with Windows 10 for a few days and then went to 7 after seeing all the telemetry news. There are aftermarket apps that block most of it (via hosts.ini) and also an evolving one that will delete the windows 10 upgrade files. dont ask me what they are, dont remember offhand but they can be found with some google seaching.

I am happy with my decision to stick with Windows 7 and delay Windows 10 until sometime in the future. I also found a download called "WGX Control Panel". This download removes Windows 10 files from your computer (depending on your preferences). This stops the Windows 10 notifications and keeps Windows 10 from downloading on your computer. Thanks for all your time and advice!
