Winchester 9mm Defender - “PDX1” no longer on the box

I recently bought a case of this ammo and they no longer say PDX1 on the box. Anyone know why this is? It does still say PDX1 on the cardboard shipping box.
btw, yes I paid more than ever before but I still consider it a worthwhile investment. SGAmmo.com briefly had the 147gr in stock.

My guess is PDX1 was either too much to explain OR another company maybe had rights to a similar name. Now on to the Jeopardy question of how much was it? What is...? Thanks for sharing too.

Winchester website lists “Defender” as their handgun line. No mention of PDX. Product nomenclature update. You got the new stuff, even if the cardboard box was old stock.

Many threads on ammo prices going up...this is just an example. I’ve got about half of the case of Federal HST 124g 9mm ammo I bought from SGAmmo a couple years back. A case (1000) was $489 for good quality hollow points. Winchester was a bit higher than Federal back then. None of it is in stock right now. None of it is even listed at that price right now.*

I’ve got a couple boxes of Winchester White Box 9mm bought at my local gun store last summer. $19.95 for a box of 100. Even SGAmmo (my favorite on line folks) have Winchester White Box listed for .60/round right now. Triple the price of what I paid, retail, a year ago. Those boxes are behind the counter now, at the same store, with a $79.95 sticker on them.

*I’ll wait while Ollie jumps in and tells us that everything, price and availability, is normal.

Thanks for the responses. Yep, prices are crazy, ended up $1.64/rd with tax and shipping. In the end I’m glad I got exactly what I was looking for, my family in California can’t get anything and online sales are illegal.
I highly recommend SG Ammo. Keep a bookmark of their page in the caliber you’re looking for and check it daily. The good stuff only seems to last a few days.
edit: I will buy whatever I can get of the white box FMJ at .60/rd when it comes back in stock.

On the end flap on the inside of the box of bullets is a series of numbers and letters. Give me these and I can decipher the manufactured date for you.
I bought a case of .357 SIG from SGAMMO (about $135 +/- shipped) in March of 2017. All of the manufactured dates were within a few weeks of each other on each box.

The mfg code on the flaps of the 2 boxes I checked are the same as the number on the outer box: 94RL21K

I received my case in a plain white box. SGAMMO must have put individual boxes into the white box and sold it as a case.

Ah, okay. They must have updated the letter R. I missed that one. I was going by the info. on the 2nd link I posted.
Good find! (y)

I’ve been on BITOG 17+ years; I’ve enjoyed the time so far and I’ve learned a TON of information from various BITOG members.

And I’m happy to say that during those 17 years, I’ve not been suspended, banned, exiled, nor executed AND sent to the Russian front.....

But, that may change shortly.......

M56959 - you are WAY TOO QUCK on the trigger (pun intended) when it comes to locking threads!

Seriously.

This thread has been most informative, especially with the info provided by B-O-F and 1000MPH.

“Stay on topic?”

Tell your fellow “staff member” Astro14 to stay on topic. Though I’ve never met him, I like most of his posts and since he’s a commercial pilot and I’m a private pilot, doubly so. The only thing that could be better is if he’s a FFDO since I teach in that program.

But, SGammo has nothing to do with PDX1. And while off topic, I learned of another ammo source for future reference.

Oh, wait! Back on topic.....

I’m sure many other BITOG old timers can cite hundreds of threads that went “way out in left field” but still proved to be informative in some way.

Thanks 1000MPH and Blue Oval for adding to my “information bank.”

M56959 -thanks for serving the BITOG community as a staff member. But, please, take a deep breath and relax.

dkryan - Well, first, my post was off topic, but I was responding to a post on the price paid for this ammo. So, yeah, OT, but...

Next, I think your post is a bit off-topic, don’t you? It’s about moderating, right? not ammo, or Winchester ammo...so...by definition, OT.

You’re not going to win over a mod by publicly criticizing his/her decision. A PM discussion is a lot more likely to be fruitful, so, are you expressing frustration? Or are you trying to get a change in moderating?

Because I looked at the posts that he deleted, and you know what, I agree completely with his decisions. One was bickering, one was a political statement. And those aren’t really germane, or, even allowed. It was a good call on his part, I would’ve done the same.

So, your position on me - agreed.

Your position on another moderator? Unwarranted.

As a general rule, if you don’t like a person’s decisions, bringing it up in public isn’t going to be effective. Report the post (which will send it to all moderators) and let a fresh set of eyes take a look.

I’ve reversed my own decisions if presented with well-reasoned, dispassionate argument. But a public argument, or a post filled criticism of my decision, is going to put me on the defensive, and really, that’s going to harden my position, not make me amenable to changing it.

And now, I’m genuinely off-topic, way, way, off-topic, but I hope it helps.

TL;DR - I agree with some of what you said about me, but M56959 made good calls.

Cheers,
Astro

No worries!

Yep. I should have gone direct to the moderators to sort it out. My bad.

Everyone have a good week going forward. And happy hunting.
