will synthetic help quiet engine noise

5w30 Synpower made less noise than any M1 product or SOPUS product ever used in my dad's 2.4 Ecotec.

Maybe it can work in your VORTEC 4200.

I've noticed any difference in noise with oil my fiance's Cobalt with a 2.2L. Maybe that extra 200 mL of displacement is the difference?

My 2.2 ION doesn't sound different even though I have used various synthetics.

Many larger stroke engines have shorter piston skirts, which cause more piston slap, increasing noise. The 2.4L featured VVT timing sprockets, they are sometimes sensitive to different oil. The 2.2L got VVT a few years after the 2.4. The 2.4L also features piston oil squirters, what difference that make, I don't know.
