So far, we have this:

*P.S.: That is what Newark looks like.

Landlord probably COULD handle it, but screw that right now, I am a DIYer and don't like inviting people into my apartment to seee what is in there. This Honda theft is.. suspicious.

Ah the dreaded slow moving tub drain. What I've experienced in the house I live in, is the stopper mechanism gets sloppy over the years causing reduced output. Enter two women and the hair quickly builds ups. Few runs of Draino helped, but not to the extent of repairing the overlow stopper assembly. It was the original Price Pfister from 1976, was horrid indeed. Now, my shower is a different story. It's an old lead pan lined shower (complete with harvest gold tiles...ick) and galvanized drain assembly. It will build up soap and hair (I have long hair that sheds...alot...) within a couple months. Draino won't touch it and I have to get the industrial stuff that I get from work. After 15 minutes and stinking up the house with sulfur smell it's good as new. I do not like to recommend that stuff to the average person because it's dangerous as heck to work with if you're not careful.

I keep a zip it drain clearing device under each bathroom sink.

They are 2 dollars, and much better than harsh chemicals.

My wife's tub clogs up about every six months.

I run the zip it down there, then throw the thing out.

It gets all the hair out of the drain.

Then I let some white vinegar sit in there, and it is clean and clog free.

Newark is a sewer, and this is a drainage issue.

So if you were living in a luxury condo in south beach drain clogs can't happen?

I'm surprised that a self-professed DIYer would be posting all of their problems on the Internet for other people to solve without first attempting some research and troubleshooting themselves. Drain, sunroof, pistol, birds... I see BITOG is quickly becoming your blog again.

Last year you were collecting social welfare and still at your parents' place. If you are on your own now (and perhaps off welfare?), I'll give you credit for that. However, you seem to have another junk vehicle that's going to be a money pit, and you're talking about buying luxuries again.

I'll give you the same advice I did then. You need to rearrange your priorities. Stop buying junk and save your money until you've got your bills paid off. How is the credit card debt coming along? It's foolish to be buying parakeets and guns if you're making minimum payments on unsecured debt and don't have reliable transportation.

KLOBBER drain cleaner available at most plumbing supply houses. Nasty stuff to use just follow the instructions.

Hi there! Thank you for your thoughtfully and well-worded post. I did not want to muck up or de-rail this thread with "stuff" so PM sent... all is well!

And thank you for all responses thus far!

I don't think it's been mentioned, but depending on how fast it backs up will tell you how far down the blockage is. If it backs up right away, chances are it is women's hair in the trap that the zip tie style snake mentioned previously will be perfect for. Chemicals probably won't work.

I've used NaOH based drain cleaners (they throw Al chips in for a little excitement) with success in the past. They work for a mostly organic clog of soap and hair.

They used to sell H2SO4 industrial drain chems that were great for rust flakes and other junk.

That said I've have more success with vinegar and baking soda bombs. First all get a goodly amount of baking soda in the drain, maybe a carton or two. Then pour a half gallon on vinegar in and watch. Or leave.

After the churning, the drain will be nice an clean.

Unless the kids have stuffed some plastic something or another in there. A couple plastic kid paint brush handles kept me attacking for awhile.

I been trying to plunger it and that dont seem to be working. Until I get the baking soda..

Also, we MAY be moving out of here. This spiteful car thief situation is not to our liking. Wifey and I are in agreement... so, landlord will not be privy to our activities. Take that how you like.
