So our 07 accord EX 6 cyl now has approx 74,000 on the clock. Ive done all the maintence on this car so far minus a transmission service (at our local Honda dealer $70.xx)at 44,000 miles. already done. power stearing fluid replaced front brakes oil (Regular OCI's) PCV Brake fluid: extracted and refilled at res. Air filter Intake cleaned MAI cleaned. questions Is the tranny service on this car fairly simple ? like changing oil simple ? (as its my wifes car im not that knowledgeable on it) I may consider doing this myself. If i do this myself any recomendations on the type of tranny fluid to be used (other than OEM) Is there anything else i should consider doing besides whats been listed above at 74,000 ? anyone know what kinda plugs are in this car ? i would assume Iridium 100.000ers i planned on draining the coolant in the spring (car being 5 years old) thanks

valve adj. will be due in the near future, check the motor mounts, honda v6's are really hard on mounts, the trans serv. is easy, pull the drain plug on the trans, drain, replace plug put 3 qrts back in, do this 3 times with driving in between, honestly the new honda dw-1 fluid is all i would use, it doesn't really cost much more then anything else so why not? also keep in mind the t-belt, you have about 30k mi. till it's due but you might as well get in that mind set now since it is a fairly big job.

OK, drain, replace, drain, replace... is this becouse there is more than 3 quarts in there and were just "flushing" with 3 quarts that comes out at a time ? I figured the valve adjust and TC/water pump would both be done at the same time.. at around 100,000

Yup, mopar pretty much covered it. Tranny fluid service really is just that simple. T-belt/water pump due at 100K, probably change plugs then, too. Not sure if the '07 has an interior cabin air filter, but that might need changing if it hasn't been done yet.

If you use anything other than OE, you are, frankly, stupid. Honda had terrible reliability problems with its V6 automatics from about 1998 to 2004. They have solved those problems. Part of the solution involved special fluid, which is, as far as I know, only available from a Honda dealer.

Have you looked at the under-hood sticker?

Are you sure you even need to do that? Have you checked your Owner's Manual?

Is there any reason you're planning on adjusting the valves? Although Honda loves to put it in their manual I don't think they usually need it unless there's some issue.

In the CRV, start the engine let it run till the radiator fan kicks on, shut it off. Drain the fluid. Add 3 qrts, repeat to check the level. Ours took another 1/2 of a qrt. Very simple. We bought ours used so i did it twice then 5K after. Now im sticking to the recommended 15K interval. DW1 from H and A.

Servicing the AT in the Fit is simple. Get a 3/8" ratchet, stick ratchet end into drain bolt, unscrew, drain out 3 quarts, throw 3 quarts in, check level, done. I use Maxlife ATF in the Fit with good results. I've also heard excellent things about DW-1. The Maxlife is much easier to get locally, so it's used.

The "stupid" guy is asking questions about his wifes car so he can learn. Im not at home to look myself, im posting questions so i dont have to go home and and stare at a owners manual. Maybee i can pick up items needed on the way home to do service ? ect, ect, ect.

+1 to the procedure and to the Valvoline Max life in the tranny. I've used that for the past two years on my wife's 97 civic and my 98 Sienna. Cheaper than most other full synthetic tranny fluid and does a great job. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 2007 accord uses a timing chain.

Let "Mr. Honda believer/honk" guide you (that's me.) Plugs at 100k Coolant at 120k at your mileage rate ATF every 30k (just drain and fill, very easy, use DW-1 from the dealer or Amsoil's ATF every 50k) Adjust valves every 110k Change oil as you wish

Need to bleed brake fluid from the bleeder screws. New cabin filter is needed every 3-4 years or 40-50k miles.

yes very good but the t-belt is due at 105k and the coolant will be replaced at this time when the water pump is removed. also (having nothing to do with above quote) the valve adj. is needed, on hondas the exhaust vales tend to become tight over time causing the valves to stay partially open, this will lead to a misfire and possibly a burnt valve, at that point you will be replacing a head. so don't wait till you are having issues to adjust the valves, 100k mi. is a good point to do them but i'd do it at 85 or 90k just to be on the safe side. i have replaced heads myself caused from lack of valve adj. so it does happen and most honda owners never adjust the valves.

Why don't you follow the Maintenance Minder? I also have an 07 V6 Accord and that's what I do. The system will tell you when to do the oil, air filters, plugs, timing belt, coolant, AT change, etc. The only thing independent of that is the brake fluid which needs flushing/bleeding every 3 years. I did that at 3 years, and to be proactive, I changed 3 quarts of AT out at 24,000 miles and again at 54,000 miles. I sit at 62,000 now. I used Z-1 the first time and DW-1 the 2nd time, and the DW-1 has improved shifts somewhat. It called for air/cabin filters at 30,000 and 54,000 miles which I thought was reasonable. Take a look at this page in the owner's manual.

Does your wife read that manual while sitting at stoplights? Not likely. So do what I did with my wife's manual: I removed it from the glove box, blew the dust off, and kept it for my own enjoyment and edification.

Which is why you need to keep it around for yourself, so you can refer to it when you want to know something important.
