Why lately are so many people switching to fram ultra and keeping them on longer are they that good and is the oil flow as good as say the classic that some switched from? I believe flow is very important than filtration.. I know they are more money but people say they use them for 2 or 3 oci's
What makes everyone think they are so good?

You're one of the people who believe how a cut open filter looks is important aren't you? The Ultras run their full interval or longer with no pleat movement and they also boast the highest efficiency available at 99%+@20 microns and 80% efficient at 5 microns. Nothing cellulose based will touch those figures nor have the holding capacity of the synthetic media.

Lots of the synthetic filters are nice, the Amsoil EA is sweet too.

What makes everyone think they are so good? I will tell you why I think they are so good...
1- Very efficient media. 99% at 20 microns and a stellar 80% efficient at 5 microns.
2- Good oil flow from the fully synthetic media.
3- Silicon ADBV.
4- They are built like tanks, metal end caps, sturdy canister, and wire backed media.
5- Capable of 15K miles OCI's.
6- Available at WM and Amazon for the low price of around $9.

NOTHING, please don't use them, this way the XG4386 can be in stock more often at my local walmart!

more for us!

Fram Ultra has more then adequate flow needed for the vehicles they are designed for.

that is not low by any means, you can get them from 5.11 to 6.13 with AAP online coupons shipped to your door step.

Correct i am one of those people but i always believed good flow is one of the most important things an oil filter should offer. I know nothing about the ultra i am asking because a friend in Florida changes their oil once a year with Synthetic Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w20 and he puts around 10,000 miles on it and i am looking for a good oil filter that will last 1 year and around 10,000 or maybe more miles. It is a ford truck 4.6 with around 80,000 miles on it. Not sure of the year. He used to use the pure one but does not want them anymore. Does the fram flow better that the pure one?

+1 ... and I got my last purchase (bought four) for about $6.75 a filter with the Advance Auto Parts 35% off coupon!

Thats excellent! I should pay more attention to those discount codes.

They are a good 2x OCI filter too IMO. I like doing with with my moms car since it sees nothing but highway miles. This makes every second oil change quick and mess free.

I get mine at AAP with their online discount codes. They usually come to around $6.50 or so with in store pick up.

You think you're gonna get good flow when the filter's catching all those 20 micron sized particles?

Where have you been? The Ultra talk has been going on for a long time now. LOL

Yes, it's a good filer, and yes it flows well.

Yes, you can have BOTH high efficiency and good flow if designed properly. Full synthetic media can do both ... except in the case of the WIX XP!

LOL

And beside, it's been mentioned about 300 times that a positive displacement oil pump will give the same oil flow to the engine regardless of the oil filter installed unless you were driving at red line with cold oil all the time ... then you might see a 3~5 PSI difference.

Well the Ultra would be perfect for that application. Or any good full synthetic oil filter. But the Ultra will cost less than most in that level of filter.

I saw that part about the positive displacment oil pump and thats great in theory but as i posted in other threads when i used pureones on vehicles with real oil gauges it took longer to build up oil pressure and the sound of the engines tell me the real story but i don't want to argue that point been there done that and it got old. I think i will use one of those filters on one of my vehicles and see what i think because a lot of my buddies on here seem to like them.

My daughter 2014 Accord 4-cyl will most likely has Fram Ultra only after she gets all free oil changes at dealer for 2 years.

We don't have AAP in the West, so I have to buy it from local auto parts stores or Walmart for about $9-10/ea. But I think I may use Ultra for 2 oil changes(probably with any name brand synthetic 0W20) of about 7-8k miles each, so the FCI is about 15k miles.

I use low end oil filters in my 21 years old LS400, after 370+k miles the engine didn't suffer any failure related to oil or not, but for my daughter car I will be more careful about maintenance.

Yes, in theory the positive displacement oil pump will do as mentioned. But there are other factors involved with engines being stated after right after an oil change and all the oil galleries have drained out.

With all the positive talk about the Ultra, you should try one and I'm sure you'll give it a thumbs up.

OP there is a lot of talk about these because it is the only decent filter Fram makes. Not that I love to agree with the Fram crowd, but it is a good filter and is relatively cheap and readily available at Walmart. If you were looking for a synthetic filter, this would be one (of many) to try

^^^ You might be switching to one once you find torn media before your very eyes.

Good choice, my Accord likes them. Plus its Hondas recommendation (at least for the K24) to run the oil filter for 2 OCI's anyway.
