The two I go to, one in NJ and one in PA, are both excellent. Far better than any Wal-Mart I've been to.

Tonight was the first time that I was in a K mart in a long time, namely because there are none close to me.
Exceptionally clean store with polite help. Walking down the clothing aisle, there actually was someone working in the women's section, straightening things up and folding clothes.
Major problem is there was basically no stock. One could fill up about half the store with all the stock present. Electronics section was pathetic. Had a small appliance section with some fridges and a washer/dryer. Very easy to tell that some of the stock was aged. Prices did not seem horrible though.
What blew my mind was that 200 feet away from this free standing K Mart was a Sears Hometown store. What business in their right mind sets up a scenario where they compete against themselves? No wonder they are going down the pipes.

KMart started exiting Texas a long time ago. Most remaining stores are in the Rio Grande Valley area now, near the border and a high concentration of Winter Texans, and in El Paso.
None in the major metro areas of Houston, San Antonio, or Dallas-Ft. Worth now.
A shame as I liked the KMart of the 70's to early 90's.
