What is the purpose of sae 30 non-detergent oil (API SA) if you can't use it in anything made after 1930? We sell a lot of it at the Napa I work at, and I think most people don't even realize there's a difference. We have the SAE 30 Heavy Duty (with detergents, API SL) right next to the API SA oil and the bottles look almost identical, so today I taped up little signs indicating which bottles have detergents and which don't. Hopefully some people will now at least ask what the difference is and can make an informed decision.
But anyway, back to the original question, if this oil is obsolete, why are companies even manufacturing it anymore?
