Hi, I'm new to this website. I was looking around on this board to see what peoples passed experiences were with the napa proselect oil filters.
I saw a post from 5 months ago of the exact same filter number but the media of the two look completely different. Here is the link to the post that I saw https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/napa-proselect-and-nascar-select-new-cut-open.145774/

Could someone please explain that would be highly appreciated. Why would two of the same filters look completely different filtering media.
Here are the pictures of what I had in my filter

I can't speak for the maker, but it seems the ProSelects are all over the place. I've had various ones with rubber bypass valves, metal valves at the dome end, and metal at the thread end, bought at different times. The only thing that was consistent was that to ProSelect media appeared inferior to the NAPA Gold under a microscope if I'm seeing what I think I am.

My advise is spend a few bucks more for the Gold.

Ummm, they may have bought from different suppliers? May have used different dye in the paper? May use a different media?

I think you are putting too much thought into this. Its just a filter; let it Do its job...

Thanks for your reply. I'll be buying a napa gold next oil change. I was using Fram oil filters for the past two oil changes until I found out that they are overpriced for the quality of the filter.

the proselect is a [censored] good filter!!! i use them on 2 cars. Gold is a gimmick. I admit that i have proselect with metal dome bypass valves, thread end metal bypass and thread end rubber bypass valves. but all are solid!!

The proselect that you have pictured there is a good general purpose filter. The only time I would say get a "super filter" if if you are trying for 10K miles out of an oil change. 7500mi or less, It's a fine filter.

What actual facts do you base that opinion on?

I disagree. As a filter with a relatively porous media begins to plug a little with long use, the media catches more dirt--up to a point. Finer media will catch finer particulates sooner, but will plug sooner.
I think you have it backwards.
