Why is Mobil 1 0w40 so cheap and good?

Good stuff I tell ya...

I think the tax burden is most of it. For example Australian red wine here is much higher quality dollar per dollar than California wine, with the same shipping and labour cost overheads. So is white wine from New Zealand..

I'm finding the best bang for the buck is coming from Chile, Argentina, Italy & Spain.

If you like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, try a Torrontes or Torrontes / Chardonnay blend from Argentina, or a Sauvignon Blanc from Chile.

I never noticed anything so great about m1 and the price is inline with the other name brands.here in the states anyway.I wouldn't waste my money on it or any of the expensive oils.I've had great results with more moderately priced oil. A lot of people on other forums swear by pu and tout it as superior to the rest. I'll stick with dino and discounted or store brand synthetics.I have an understanding of how uoa work and few folks utilize them in a productive way. I certainly have seen nothing to indicate m1 is all that. I had terrible results with their high mileage stuff.

Sure for SN or some API spec but what if your engine requires some other spec as many do?

And you didn't have "terrible results" with any ExxonMobil HM product. Get real.

I guess if you're driving a car that requires specific specifications you have to do what you have to do but I don't know that Mobil 1 is the only option. At least it's made by an American company sorta.

As far as the rest of your statement saying " you did not have any bad luck with Exxon high mileage, get real" I guess I'll let you tell my story for me since you somehow know it better than I do. Carry on with your evening now let's try not to butt heads

No argument there, especially Chile. They avoided philoxera epidemic, so their vine is still the same monks brought from Spain 500 years ago.

[Quelceeda Creek territory is untouchable though]

But I was comparing with the high labour cost countries: Australia and New Zealand. When they promote their exports, price discovery seems to be very different. When we moved from Oz to USA my wife couldn't believe how cheaper everything was here, and that included Australian wines. Explaines how wasteful Americans are..

Australia is the #1 exporter of cheap wine. It's just how the producers there decided to develop their business.

Conversely the industrialized agriculture in Cali lets you drink the infamous two buck chuck.

Certain US wines are overpriced because of reputation eg Napa and especially Oregon Pinot Noirs. On the other hand, California sparkling wine (from Carneros) is world class and half the price of Champagne.

What bad results did you have from Mobil 1 High Mileage?

It caused a minor leak to be a major leak. I changed to another product for several oci and then tried it again and same thing. I wrote it off after that. Guys it's just oil I don't like it because of my experience with it that's all. U can do what you like

M1 0w-40 stopped the valve cover leak on my M5. Does my anecdote neutralize yours? LOL!

You see, we can have an intelligent and civil wine chat, and those guys cannot agree on motor oil.. Do they still argue about the merits of M1 0W-40?

My point: with the high cost of labour and shipping the cheap AU wine beats the $20 range CA wine any time of the day. Chilean $20, e.g. anything from Concha y Torro beats anything from CA in $60 range. Granted, Chilean labour is cheap. Even their Chuck's analogue, Gato Negro or whatever it is, while being a different wine from box to box, still is a decent wine.

Where does all this lead us? Back to A$100 for M1 0W-40

p. s. only here they drink Pino Noir straight (it's an additive to a fine Champagne).. and Oregon makes good Merlo

Some interesting specific words used for the M1 0w40 PDS

Quote:
It provides exceptional cleaning power, wear protection and overall performance. Mobil 1 0W-40 keeps your engine running like new in all driving conditions.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is made with a proprietary blend of ultra high performance synthetic basestocks fortified with a precisely balanced component system.

I think it's the special Grp V base oils they are using in this particular formulation and maybe some of the high vis mPAO that set this oil apart from the other M1 oils.

All things considerd, M1 0w40 is the best oil you can buy IMO.

It certainly is one of the best, at the least!

My sig car has over 103k miles and is spotlessly clean like brand new down the ole filler hole.

Even runs the quarter mile almost two tenths faster now than when new! Its diet has been M1 0w-40 the overwhelming majority of its every 3k mile changes...
