Why is it that some ST,STP,Delco,ValuCraft filter are not Ecore design?

I have noticed that all of the Champion Lab sourced filters for my 2003 Camry are still the old design. I was just woundering why this is? Is it to meet OEM spec. or something like that?

No.

It is due to popularity of the part number by the Outside diameter of the can.

That and the fact that Champ has 2 production lines cranking out all they can handle without changing more part numbers from non E-core style to E-core..at the moment.

Yeah, that is why my ST 3950's are still conventional, and I haven't seen a real PF 1177 in years.
