Personally I would just use 0w-20, but if you wanna be bleeding edge and use 0w-8, then knock yourself out. Given the amount of driving you do in the SF area, I doubt the differences would be massive between oil choices.

While his 0w8 does share some components with Erica’s race oil, it is formulated for the street. It will do a fine job.

Motul, RP, Anax and a bunch more are gearing up like Empire etc.

Mobil possibly but not sure if they are supplying Toyota or not as Toyotas oil formulator was Chevrons prior.
I' m no. 0w8 authority however.

<1% economy increase over 0W16 in testing. obviously loaded to the teeth with moly because it gives the japanese a really big hardon

Championship race teams are now qualifying on highest quality 0W8 motor oil.
They then find it unnecessary to rebuild engines prior to race day.
The bearings are unscathed.

Well, thank you for running this experiment I guess? I see this engine calls for 0w-20 on this side of pond, does it call for 0w-12 or 0w-8 in Japan?

Does the HPL lube you are using have a higher HTHS than the "production" 0w-8's sold by the OEM's?
