Why I like the ELECTRIC CAR (don't hate me)

I hear you. My current daily driver is hybrid and my next car (if any) will be plug in hybrid.

We will all drive electric cars soon. All reasonably priced crude oil will be gone in 15 years max. All cheap oil is gone since 2005.

Yes, you can make oil from coal, but it will not be cheap and will be used by planes/ships.

Meh screw it, I'm looking at the Porsche 911 Black Edition, I'd never buy an electric car for myself.

I'd buy another diesel Mercedes first, the new CDI will return low 30's around town, which for a full size luxury car is quite good.

I don't know if what you claim is true or not as far as Wisconsin's supply of electricity, but looking at the issue at a national level you cannot seriously claim we don't need power plant expansion.

Now that the weather is warming up there will be reports left and right of shortages and blackouts. The grid system isn't constrained to state lines. Imagine how much more demand there will be one every other person has one of these things plugged-in in the garage, like many people would love to see happen.

See, it's people like your Mom who would be better off not having a car (especially not a new high priced electric), and using taxis.

I know people on retirement income who are sending themselves to the wall paying off a car, $1200/year rego/insurance,maintenance costs etc...probably most of them would be better off abandoning their car (or cars),and using taxis.

Have you been in a taxi recently? I live in an area where taxis aren't even that expensive, and it is still $3.00 just to step inside one, then something like $0.40 for every 1/10 of a mile ($4.00 per mile). These people would be better off buying an inexpensive used econo car.

At least I could trust granny to do less damage with a tiny Nissan Leaf than a 2 ton V8 Caddy.
