Why I haven't I been using this oil?

Until recently, I had been using Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1 synthetics. When I went to work at the local Ford dealership, I switched to Motorcraft. I use a blend of 3 qts bulk and two quarts Motorcraft full synthetic to reduce cost. My cost for this combination of oil is about $21.

Last night I was purusing the oil aisle at Wal-Mart. Happened to notice the Quaker State Ultimate Duty for under $21. I never really paid any attention to this oil as I was happy with my choices. Five quarts of full synthetic at under $21 seems like a great bargain.


Think I will be making the switch at my next oil change.

It is a great oil. If you can get this for the price you where using to make a blend I would go for Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

It's hard to argue against Quaker State Ultimate Durability. An inexpensive, "full synthetic" oil which has given great results in used oil analysis.

i made the switch a while ago. has all the same specs as PP for $5 cheaper.

And a nice low cold pour point -45c compared to -39c

If you have a Menard's home improvement store nearby, check there also. They used to routinely put Quaker State oils on sale for killer prices, but its been a few years since I checked on oil there...

Just changed to Quaker State Ultimate Durability because of recommendations from posters on this site and from local mechanic. Very happy so far-seems to be less clatter on startups on cold mornings than previous synthetic which was M1. I know that the car probably does not know the difference but there is definetly less noise when I crank it over at 6:30 AM (first real cold morning up here in N.D. at -8. Give it a shot.

I recently switched 2 of my cars from PP to Quaker State Ultimate Durability for the same reasons--price and quality. I have the first OC of Quaker State Ultimate Durability coming up on the Azera and will be posting a used oil analysis soon. I expect the results to be close to or the same as the Pennzoil Platinum used oil analysis for less money.

I think that perhaps Quaker State Ultimate Durability will be the "Havoline" of synthetic motor oils. A quality oil at a bargain price. Perhaps not the BEST oil on the market, but a quality oil for an economical price that will servce the average driver well under reasonable conditions and OCI's.

I drive short distances (2.5 miles one way to work, home for lunch, back to work, then home) in extreme temps (both summer and winter). I value the benefits of a full synthetic. Currently using GM Oil Life Monitor. May switch to an every four motnth or every six month OCI due to the short distances and extreme temps.
I try to hit the highway for at least a 20 mile round trip every two weeks just to get oil temp up.

Quaker State or Supertech are the best bangs for your buck right now unless there are rebates are good combo deals

Here Walmart in Wenatchee, WA, Pennzoil Platinum is $18.75 for the 5 quart jug, which is cheaper than SuperTech and Quaker State Synthetics. Im a BIG fan of PP now.

Pennzoil Platinum is a great oil. For $18.75 for a five quart jug, I would be stockpiling that oil. $24.50 at Walmart here. Perhaps it will go on sale soon.

At my local W/M, SuperTech is about $20.30, Quaker State Ultimate Durability is about $20.60, and PP is about $24.50.

With many of the blends in the $18.00 range (Motorcraft, Castrol, etc.), Quaker State Ultimate Durability makes sense in a ton of applications. And if you can still find PP at $18.75, that's a no-brainer.
