Why high milleage oil?

Not that I think it's a bad product, but nobody has been able to explain what the QS Defy commercial means...

Stops 98% of future engine wear.... as opposed to WHAT?? not putting any oil in the engine? My current oil does that.

98% of future engine wear vs. WHAT? that's my question.

I use High Mileage oils not only because both of our vehicles are over 75k, that's not the point, but because their add packs many times are much better than their 'standard' counterparts.

Its a marketing "catch phrase". Thats all. Its HOT on BITOG because of the rumored high levels of ZZDP. Where the catch phrase comes from. Last post I read did not show any more ZZDP than anyone else (Blackstone VOA)

ZZDP has been decreased/replaced in the newer SN oils because its bad for the long life of catalytic converters, so they say. Which is ironic considering most cars that would use defy burn oil.

My favorite claim is the anti-wear additives have been removed from API certified oils. Anti-wear additives have not been removed. ZDDP has been lowered and ZDDP is a good cost effective anti-wear and antioxidant. ZDDP has been replaced by more expensive additives.

Theres a UOA of Defy on here somewhere from someone who was running it in their Jeep 4.0L. It showed the ZDDP levels to be closer to what QS claims, around 1,000ppm, which would make it the SL oil that its rated at. Something was off on that Blackstone VOA that was posted a while ago.

Most HM oils are syn blends. Defy, per previous conversations on here, is said to be 50% syn. So with the possibility of a slightly more robust add. pack and 50% syn I think the Defy is a pretty solid option for $15 for 5+ quarts retail.

On my engines that do not leak and do not burn oil I do not make it a point to run HM oil but I would not hesitate to use it either. And problably will with the recent deal on Defy

On my engine that has leaks and burns a little oil I do make it a point to use HM oil and it has made a significant reduction in consumption (possibly due to swelling the valve seals?) and has helped a little on the external leaks but not eliminated them.
