Why doesn't Kirkland synthetic oil put a mileage rating on it?

Space is limited. I assume Costco doesn’t want to add more choices being the markup on oil is low compared to higher profit items where general merchandise is sold.
Just saw high mileage version of 5w30 at my local Cisco few days ago. Probably will pick it up for my Hondas when it goes in sale

Just saw for the first time tonight, same 29.00 bucks for any Costco full synthetic here in CT before tax.
👍🏼

Here is the original question folks - the answer is it barely makes the cut to be called “synthetic” in the USA and will oxidize if pushed too far … Costco won’t own that …
4WD,
what in your research is too much?
Thanks

That Dexos should do 7500 in many cases … That is the GM limit on a number of vehicles …
Just based on Priceology - I think these are majority Grp3 with as much EHC as testing allows in the mix … Whereas the Valvoline HM I’m using appears to be 50/50 and can’t be called synthetic …

I've never really understand the point of those companies putting any mileage at all on their packaging. 10k miles, 15k, 20k, etc - for what car, what driving conditions, and so on ?
It's just monkey see , monkey do marketing to align with manufacturer's specified intervals to sell their products as "good value"

When's the last time someone filed a claim against an oil company for engine damage due to following the company's mileage guarantee? I think Amsoil has been the longest out there with a mileage guarantee (before they started to offer Group III based oil lines), and I don't recall a case of someone putting their feet to the fire. the eA oil filters, there was a case a long time ago, where Amsoil confirmed filters were defective (with closed louvers) damaging a Toyota SUV engine.

You have to thank the courts that sided with Castrol, for allowing Group III hydrocracked petroleum oil to be called "Full Synthetic" (as Mobil sued Castrol about the full synthetic label).

Do you have a link to this “court case” ?

This was decades ago.

1965 F250 V8
10 mpg x 5 qt x 50 = 2,500 mi

2015 F250 Gas
15 mpg x 7 qt x 50 = 5,250 mi

So which one does this hypothetical milage statement apply to?
Miles per gallon times oil capacity times 50 equals change interval in miles???? I will accept the 50 as a constant to make the equation work, but the other metrics are tangential at best.

Thanks for this, but what justifies the rule. Is there some sense that a specific amount of oil has specific capabilities, or that if you burn more gas, that you “wear” the oil more?
It’s just an old rule of thumb that takes into account driving style. If you drive more short trips, your fuel economy is lower. So you will go fewer miles between changes. It’s not perfect, but no metric is. Just another way to think about OCI.

Of course, I have an iron-clad, never-known-to-fail algorithm of changing the oil every five thousand miles.

Who cares. It's cheap enough. Clean oil is better than dirty oil. Just dump it every 3k . That's what I do. No problems. I do run a BG PN 109 every 15 or so OCI's to clean the rings., and whatever else it may grab.

I agree...I have 3 beaters : 03' Solara, 06' Camry, 13' CRV. All of them well over 120K, one has 615K on it. I buy whatever is on sale, sometimes I'll make a Frankenbrew if I have a little of this left, and a little of that left over in jugs. But they all get OCI's at 3K. They run great. And they all get a " treat" of BG 109 every 15 OCI's to clean things up. Looked inside the valve covers, don't see any sludge buildup. The engines seem to like it. Works for me.
