Hello to all,

I have a bold question. I use Arco gasoline all the time and admit I never had any issues now that it's under BP now.

I do admit I wish they could bring back there old credit card again cuz sometimes I don't have the cash but the biggest wonder I have is "why does everyone hate Arco gasoline"????

Opinions please just to satisfy my curiosity.

That's a good question. We don't have any Arco's here. We do have BP which isn't very good in these parts.

I don't hate Arco, I buy only at gas stations that accept credit cards because I have one with 5% rebate on gas. Arco cash price is lower than other stations, but 5% rebate with CC makes Shell, Chevron ... cheaper.

I have no reason to hate ARCO fuels, and have no problems using them.

I try to buy Top Tier gasoline (there's a bunch of Chevron, Shell, and now a QuikTrip in town) where possible, but will gladly purchase brand name fuel from any major brand. I'm a bit more skeptical of non-brand-name fuel, but will occasionally purchase it.

Being that essentially all gasoline in a community comes from the same source, I seriously doubt that ARCO is more "dirty" or "nasty" than any other fuel.

there is a reason it's not top tier...it's dirty and nasty

I'd say that since day 1, 90% of all fuel used in the Saturn has been Arco.

No problems at all after nearly 143k.

At the risk of sounding like the Wikipedia, I'm going to say "citation needed".

My parents have used ARCO fuel near-exclusively in their 1997 Toyota Avalon for about 10 years with no fuel-related problems. There's a huge number of people who buy ARCO fuel for the price, and I have yet to see any major problems related to the use of said fuel.

Do you have any reference that backs up your claim that ARCO fuel is "dirty" and "nasty"?

Because in the areas where the complaints come from the Arco gas is making some engines run poorly. Even if it is a problem with the engine, changing stations is the easier solution. Arco stations would disappear quickly if every engine ran poorly on its gas so clearly the same gasoline works fine for others.

No Arco around me any more but a different station's gas will stall a friend's car. The same gas in my car does not cause any rough running but I do get 10% less efficiency than same price gas from many other stations. Neither of us buy there any more for different reasons. People that don't measure their mileage and whos' engines run fine are happy to save a penny buying that gas.

I had thought there was a question asked earlier indicating the Arco was considered a "Top Tier" gas because the quality was good? Perhaps I was wrong but I could have swore it was from this forum.

I have a family member that used to run Arco in her Explorer (with the 5.0). Everytime time she filled up with Arco fuel, the car would idle extremely rough, and had anemic acceleration. After using up her tank of Arco fuel, she would fill up elsewhere and the car was back to normal. This happened numerous times. However, she has never had any fuel system problems to date.

As for me, I get my fuel from a Vons (Safeway) fuel station in my city. The price easily rivals Arco, and they get their fuel from the same truck that delivers fuel to the Shell station down the street.

chriscreags,

Was that wheh Arco was run by Arco OR later on when BP took over.

Once upon a time too I thought Arco was the worst but that was when Arco produced their own gas BUT not that BP runs the operation it been a fine gas in my opinion as I never witness any hesitation in my truck/car engine. That's regular for my truck and supreme for my car.

For an everyday driver that uses 87 octane, an arco that always has customers we can assume is going to have fresher fuel than a Chevron stuck the ghetto that sells more Mickeys and Steel Reserve than gas. When it comes to 91 and premium fuel i go for shell and chevron for peace of mind. 7-11's gas is a no-no in my boosted car, I got a lot more knock retard on my gauge.

I read somewhere that BP is top teir, and arco is part of BP. They don't get their top teir fuel just because they are owned by 'em.
