Why do most posts about GM side terminal batteries complain about the positive cable. They always say my positive terminal is corroded etc, they never seem to mention the ground. My moms 98 buick about every 3 years has a positive cable problem and we have never touched the ground cable- any reason why the positive fails first (if they do)???

I have never had that problem with all the GM vehicles I have owned.
I see posaiive cable corrosion on many cars. Must have something to do with positivly and negativly charged ions?
Apparently it's not the positive battery terminal, it's the fact that the cable attached to the positive terminal is made of copper:

Positive battery posts and terminals collect the most crud/corrosion. This is why the penny [on top post batteries] should be placed near there.
It is because of the electron flow - the inherent way it is. Any moisture or crud on the battery top can make this happen at a faster rate.

I have yet to have issues with corrosion on a side terminal battery.
IIRC, when GM went to the side terminals, one of the selling points was "no" corrosion.
The problem I have with them is occasionally stripping the terminal threads.

My Honda did the same thing....a build-up of junk on the positive terminal...my solution was to clean em up, real goood and spray paint (inside & outside) them with copper paint, been three years and so far so good .. no build up at all.

A penny?
This goes back to day one -a very old trick.
Corrosion will aggregate on the penny, instead of the terminals.
Just lay one or two on the battery top, near the posts
BTW - Sure , neg posts/connectors will corrode and get build up, but it's the positive ones that are the worst.
