I dropped a oil sample off to my little podunk Post Office on monday and it has already arrived at Polaris and is logged in for testing. My little Post Office is so far out the samples don't receive there postage until they reach Raleigh. He just weighs the sample charges me the postage and writes it on the sample with a pen where the stamp needs to be placed.

For a dollar sixty that is darn good service.

Ours is pretty busy, and Ive gotten flack about the sample bottles before. Ever since they implemented the 13oz max for mail drop Ive been going to an UPS store and shipping USPS through them. In and out in a few minutes at the most.
Oh, and the mail carrier decided to leave a package on top of the mail box today, instead of, you know bringing it to the house. I know its not exactly secure inside the box but at least it isnt a beacon.

Because they loose my packages, because I find neighbor' mail in my mailbox at least once a week; who knows where my mail is going. All complaints to the local postmaster accomplished nothing.

I complain because i paid over 10000+ in taxes this year and the post office charged me $13 to mail my returns.

My local office has Althea , the slowest woman on the planet. She is the sole reason the post office has lost 3 billion dollars this year and every year.

Whatever complains people have for the post office, you can find the same in UPS/FedEx. Mine never knock on my door or couldn't even find my house and say wrong address and return back to sender.

One time FedEx even managed to lose a ceiling fan (a 3'x1'x1' box) after they drop it off the front of my house without even ringing a bell.

Most complain about post office is just because it is government, and some people have a thing against the government regardless of whatever it is.

Well this turned ugly quick.

If anything, the environment in the mail room is one of the harshest and most oppressive that can be. People do know where the term "going postal" came from, don't they? Many a manager/supervisor's family would have wished for a kinder, gentler employment mentality.

Complacency effects all sectors of the work industry, blue and white collar.

The sad part is the when the postal employees see a long line forming inside the post office they just take their sweet time and as if they are dragging their [censored] on purpose.

Tater- you kill me buddy, that's like me saying...

Title of Post- "Why do people complain about oil companies..."

Post- "I went to the gas station today and filled up for $70. What a great service they provide!"

I would think people would respond pretty strongly. It is as if you were inviting argument.

And from my observations large cities have the worst post offices while smaller towns have better ones.

Seeing you are in North East NC, I assume you live in a smaller town. I'm origially from Cherryville NC- near Charlotte. My uncle retired from the Cherryville Post Office (A very small operations).

It is just like everything else the sorry workers drag the ones of us who give 100% every day down with them.

26 years service and proud of it.

For documents and small packages, it's faster, cheaper, and more reliable than their private sector competitors. I like the post office.

I did not mean it to come out like that. I just meant look at how fast the service was for $1.60.

Small would be an upgrade. I live in a township, population of 1941 but the township is technically 1/3 of the county.

I'm a federal employee myself.

Not the ones here. My ex works for the USPS and I can tell you that it is FAR from oppressive.

The union ensures that it is very difficult to fire someone.

That's no assurance that it's not a hostile work environment. Hence,

Is not necessarily true just because of the aforementioned union.

Our post office has observation "ports" on some upper tier from before the time of cheaper video surveillance. That was so that supervisors could look for stuff to reprimand someone for.

For what it is, and what the options are, the PO is a good deal.

The lines are super long though... given the wiats to mail something at the counter, youd think they would be making money.

Post Office has always been great for me. Not ONE time have I had a lost package or piece of mail for that matter. I have though, had UPS drop my packages off across the street!???!! Postal Rates for shipping and speed are.. IMO the best in the country. As for "GOING POSTAL"....the same can be said for every other Government entity in the US. It IS HARSH and there are DEMANDS for the employees. The Postal service is NOT, I REPEAT NOT subsidized by the federal government or TAXPAYER MONIES.
