I wonder what the psychological reason that a person can see something and when it affects their Country, team, driver, or guy they dismiss the facts and are with them even if they are wrong, out, making an excuse etc. They cant look at the facts objectively. Is it wanting to be on the winning side or something else going on. Freud where are you! For example, I like Max Verstappen in F1, but there are times he has done things which were plain wrong yet his fanboys justify what he did. This happens in ALL aspects in life

Because people chose to believe what they want to be true. There delusion is to them there reality.

I have posted quantified data here multiple times - from the BLS, from the St. Louis Fed, from the census , and had people argue it because "they know better" 🤷‍♂️

I usually have no horse in the race, just sharing data. I find it entertaining. If anything this is the most important thing I have learned on BITOG. It makes what is going on in the world much easier for me to understand.

The more one invests into some decision, the more they feel a need to continue that path, lest they be found wrong. Hard to admit to error, especially the more invested they are, as it means they spent more time money effort into the wrong thing.

And sometimes the alternative is too damaging. If one agrees that smoking kills, yet still smokes, then they have a problem. But if they could somehow come up with an argument that says smoking doesn't kill, then they are just fine with their actions. No need to deal with quitting. [Poor analogy but it's off the top of my head. People usually do not care for change.]

The human mind is like the valve body of a 4L60E. You think you can follow the maze with your eyes but it throws you into first when you mash the pedal at 45 and leaves you wondering why.

But seriously, if you know your own blind spots and are honest with yourself about them, AND are good at manipulating others', you'll never go hungry in this society.

I make mistakes and have errors in judgement regularly. I do try to learn from them and view truth with the understanding that when better information comes around, I reserve the right to change my viewpoint. My opinion is that for most two stroke engines, 32 to 1 provides adequate lubrication. The motoring truth is that Toyota has traditionally made the most reliable vehicles (the turbo V6 issues are changing that) and yet I prefer Ford vehicles for overall comfort and performance. But the best vehicle I've ever owned is my Jaguar F-Type, as it has soul, is comfy, reasonably reliable and so it's my subjective truth as best. Sure, a Camry is better objectively....

Anyway, when it comes to more practical things, the truth is pretty solid. The Earth is not flat, the view from FL510 makes that clear, mankind did land on the Moon, and HP is king!

Are you talking about this forum? EV's are the perfect example of this on here.

NOTE-I'm not responding to any comments on the statement I just made.
