Saw a post referencing BITOG over at www.brickboard.com.

I registered because it was imperative I commented on the "who has >150,000 miles on their auto trans" thread.

Quick someone find my first post.

Interesting that I stumbled accross Bob years ago and poo-poo'd him as some kind of sales oil nut. (He has since reformed

) I didn't join right away (hence member #512) because.....well just because.

Ironic that during my lurking days, folks from the brickboard.com also turned me on to BiTOG! I was a post whore on the brickboard from day 1, but I only have 1 or 2 posts over there in the last 3 years!

I posted past my 10,000th yesterday and not one big wet kiss. Oh well, it is an oil board (sometimes I forget)

Carry on.

Was looking for oil choices for a Harley Davidson I bought in July of '04. Found this place. Learned a lot!

Prior to becoming a BITOGER I just poured "whatever" oil in my old Escort. It uses oil, so I never really changed it for the last 20,000 miles or more. Somehow it's still alive.

IIRC, someone on VWvortex posted a link to this board in a long thread trying to analyze if the new (back then) Mobil SuperSyn was inferior to the old TriSyn formula.

I've always had a fascination with oil and how it works but never really "studied" it because I assumed it would be way over my head (which doesn't take much). One day out of boredom I typed "oil research" into google and somewhere in a response this site was mentioned. After lurking for awhile I realized that most of the posters where just regular guys that are interested in oil and that there are some real experts willing to post their expertise. Been hooked ever since.

Guys on the "Motorweek" forum sent me over to look at the air filter study. They were discussing K&N air filters.

I got hooked immediately. Bitog covers every facet.

I'm here because I wanted to find out more about GTA fuel enhancer, the pink glop AKA viscon. Search results were inconclusive. But have since learned that my cheap dino oil/STP filters/ 3k OCIs were just fine. I also have started to use MMO as a fuel additive in my cars.

I was looking for a cheap, high-grade oil for my saturn. Chevron Supreme was all the rage here at the time. I lurk in the oil and UOA sections as I'm no chemist but contribute to mechanical & maintenance techniques.

The first oil information I found on the net was back in 1997 when someone posted to rec.autos.tech a table listing flashpoints, ash content, pour points, and some other stuff. I was able to conclude (led to believe?
smile.gif
) from that chart that the Superflo made at the time was cheaper than the rest.

right on. I joined when I frequented the Edmunds Board. Bob used to get on there also. At first I thought he was merely trying to sell his stuff and I really didn't have a very high opinion of him. He sounded like a know-it-all and we got into some arguments. But little by little I realized that he was right more often than me.

He just sorta' won me over.

Sometimes we argue about things on this board and its easy to fall into the trap of thinking the other guy is an idiot. I have done this many times on this board and on the Sentra board on which I post. I consider some of my former antagonists my friends..even though I might never meet them.

Someone on the Car Talk web site posted a link here. It was in the middle of some synth vs. dino debate, IIRC. I started reading more and more and, after lurking for several months, finally joined. This is my thing to do when things are slow at work.

I was trying to find out why Wal-mart quit carrying Motorcraft. A posting about MC came up on a Google search and I started delving deeper into this site. The only board I post to anymore.

I saw Bob and AL fighting on Edmunds' board. I followed the fight over here.

I didn't post much as I was instigating on the car talk board. Then they ruined it.

I really don't think Bob ever came across as a know it all. He just presented his observations and knowledge in a way that a prosecutor would build a case. He made sense to me. I think it's how he got Al to consider non synthetic motor oil.

I stay to see what Pablo, buster, et al will do next.
