Whole home generators

My inlaws have had a natural gas Generac for +20 years now and it has been used to run the whole house for 5-8 days in a row several times with absolutely no issues. Depending on natural gas costs it can be expensive - I want to say they were out for 8 days with Super Storm Sandy and I think they used $700 worth of natural gas in those 8 days. It starts automatically once per month, they have it serviced yearly and to my knowledge, it has never failed to start when they needed it. It is not the quietest thing in the world even with the external cover but it's also 20 years old so newer models may be quieter.

I see you are in my old home state. I am right across the border in Southeast NC
I dont have one but my community has a lot of installed back up generators. I could swear they are almost all Generac. I would chose them over Honeywell only because Generac is what they do, Honeywell is a brand. I have also noticed in portable generators by what I remember in Consumer reports even though they are pricey. Generac produced the most clean electricity. I dont mean pollution wise. I mean clean stable interference free amperage/voltage. Not that I know anything.

COSTCO has a deal with Honeywell 22 kW @ $5500 with a free 7 year warranty and it comes with a transfer switch.

Is it advisable for stand-by generators to power AC units, or is it best to run only refrigerators and lights with them? Something about unclean, non seamless energy transfer cooking AC units.

Whole house standby generators are going to have clean power . This is what they are designed for .

My setup using a DuroMax 13000HXT to run my whole house. Works perfectly and I have a portable to take with me if / when I move as rarely does a backup really add much value for resale. In fact, I'd almost say saying it has a 50A Generator hookup is all that's needed. ;)
