Who of our West Coast CA Friends were Affected by or Felt the Earthquake?

Slept right thru it here in the Valley. ;)
I hate when that happens even here in South Carolina we have frequent tiny ones but I think I only felt one and I slept through a bigger one, one year, it was weird like our dog knew something was going to happen he was acting strange before bedtime that night both wife and I noticed the way he was acting.
Oh,,, Silicone valley? Yeah way north of you.

Good to know, thanks for the detail. We live on the West Coast (in Canada) and have purchased earthquake insurance on our policy but like all insurance dealings, you never know how good (or bad) the coverage / provider's care is until something happens.
See my original post in #7.

My wife and I were on the road yesterday for a 350 mile drive and this convo came up.

While Sue and I discussed I realized I left out an important fact. AAA paid the mortgage holder - and then we had to submit the paperwork to our mortgage holder to get our money back. This is key distinction from what I originally said in post #7.

As I said, our lender did not require earthquake insurance. It was optional and is something Sue and I took out to protect us, not the lender. We had about 50% equity in the home.

And, as I said in #7, we didn't have the cash to pay for the repairs up front so we had to take out a HELOC to pay for those repairs, which our lender was more than happy to do because they made money in the process! And the longer they took to reimburse us, the more money they made.

Once again, proof that earthquake insurance is there more as a protection for the lender than it is for the homeowner. Even with it being an optional policy... A total scam.

2 elderly people died, due to medical emergencies during or just after the earthquake, and emergency services couldn’t reach them in time.

There were about 70,000 power outages in Humboldt County; there are still about 14,000 this morning.
