That would be very difficult question to give a definative answer to.

There are some partial lists around. You might be able to find them with a search of the oil filter forum.

Be aware that the company that makes filter X might not be the company that makes it next month. Also, some filter OEM and house brands are sourced from 2 or 3 manufacturers for one filter.

Sometimes even a brand name filter company will use filters from another manufacturer to round out their product line.

Your example, AC/Delco is made by multiple manufacturers. They are one of the worst multi-source-without-telling-you offenders.

I think a good example of this was a few years ago when they were ramping up with the filter elements for the Ecotec. I bought the identical to the name and part number Purlux 264 in AC, Hastings, and Fram boxes.

I assume the L 15436's I am buying now are made by Purolator, although they do not have a string on them.

Haven't see an AC or Hastings for a couple of years. Fram is making their own now. They look as good as the rest, but I may not live long enough to forgive them for their regular crap that they passed off as brand name filters.

Most companies don't release who makes their filters. Just keep an eye on the studies and as long as they are updated, they should be accurate. Also keep in mind some filters may be made by more then one company. Learn the base plate clues and you'll always know(expect in filters without base plates)

Filterguy said there was a way to tell if a filter was made by Champion. Some stamping on the base plate. Naturally, as was mentioned, this requires a base plate.

I was recently (days ago) taking with an AC Delco rep and he says their oil filters are made in the USA. I stressed to him that was important to us, he claims they are also concerned about it. He would or could not confirm reports on who makes them for AC Delco but says whoever does, they are building them to AC Delco spec's.

But he warned that Advance Auto Parts somehow got a vast supply of AC Delco filters made in another county and destined for vehicles made and sold in that country. He would not tell me what county that was but I suspect in on the southern border. They did not get them from AC Delco.

IF GM feels they are good enough to put on a BRAND NEW VEHICLE, then what's wrong with them?

IF AC Delco is supplying filters to GM, they are only acting as a "middleman" anyway!

Note down the pat# and do a search on USPTO

I know my SuperTech was made by Champion that way!

Maybe a good way to identify Champian filters, but not the Purolator Pure One, Wix Gold, Toyo Roko or Fleetguard filters in my stash.

BTW, if you type a patent number into the Google search bar, Google will recognixe it as patent and offer to take you to the USPTO search engine.

The following engines were good enough for GM to put them in brand new vehicles. Vega, Corvair, Cadillac 4-6-8. I'm sure others here can add a few. Maybe we can have a transmission list too.

Then we can get down to subsystems. Anyone want to adapt an Opti-Spark to an engine that didn't come with one?

Would they chintz out on something like a filter, an item that would cause them no warranty problems unless it failed outright? No way
