Just out of curiousity, who makes the Mazda cartridge filter? Are they decent?

I just bought a Wix filter for my 2.3L mazda3 from Napa for $11.00CND which is only a dollar more than what I would've spent for a mazda filter.

Purolator also makes a cartridge filter for the 2.3. Either WIX or Purolator will be fine.

BTW, are you aware you can convert the cartridge setup to a spin-on setup? The kit is less than $40 and takes about 10 minutes to put on. I've done it and love it. I saved the cartridge parts in case I need to put them back on for taking the car into the dealership. The spin-on setup is just so much cleaner and easier to use. Plus, you have more of a selection of filter brands to use. Send me a PM if you want more info.

I bring my car in far too often to be converting back and forth like that. I wish they would just accept this conversion as normal procedure.

I didn't say I keep switching back and forth. I've never put the cartridge setup back on since I've converted to the spin-on.

I just keep the parts in case I need to take it in for an engine issue...that's all.

They will be aware of the change you made once you provide the reciepts for the filters. I don't want to chance it because engine works are costly. Thanks for suggesting anyway.

You have a good point about the the receipts for filters...don't know why I ever thought of it.

I'm still have no idea who makes the Mazda OEM cartridge filter but you'd be in good hands with either the WIX or Purolator filters if you decided to ditch the OEM.
