I wouldn't state sometthing as fact I have not already researched and confirmed personally.

Well that only makes it more so interesting. So basically there are two types of O'Reilly oils out there, some are SM + GF-4 and some are only SL. I guess a quick look on the bottle should clear it up. This is what is listed for O'Reilly:

O'REILLY 10W-30 SL* June 23, 2009
O'REILLY 10W-40 SL June 23, 2009
O'REILLY 20W-50 SL June 23, 2009
O'REILLY 5W-30 SL* June 23, 2009
O'REILLY HD 30 SL June 23, 2009
O'REILLY HD 40 SL June 23, 2009

I see what you are saying. I guess this would be an issue look out only if you decide to keep the car for a very long term AND it starts burning oil. I'm intending to keep my Lancer through its 150K/15 years PZEV warranty so I'm very careful what I put in it. This 4B11 engine is a very new design and we have yet to see what issues it might have.

I'm one of the oddballs who also looks for 10w30 oils in particular that are SL rated for use in my Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0l. Citgo Supergard 10w30 is cheap and fits the bill nicely at my local Fleet Farm. No evidence that the SM oils cause problems, but enough other concern that running a SL oil makes me not worry. Heck, my '88 Jeep originally recommended 7500 mile intervals on SF grade oil! :)

Next winter may be more interesting - the first winter I'll look for SL grade 5w30 - my current stash is gone...
