I've heard motorcraft makes good filters is that still the case? If so I'm going to give the FL822 a try on my car on the next oil change.

If quality has declined then I'll stick with the wix filters I've been using.

I haven't heard anything about their quality declining, but I could've missed it. Motorcraft tends to be a great value for what you get with their products. If I remember correctly, in the past I think their filter was made by Purolator, but I'm sure someone will come on here and correct me if I'm mistaken

sicko is correct, but bear in mind that although Purolator makes *most* of Motorcraft's popular filters (FL820S, FL400S, FL1A, the PowerStroke diesel filters, etc), certain filters may be second-sourced if they only fit a limited application.

All filter manufacturers will have a few duds every now and then...especially high volume ones like Fram. I would say that kind of defect is rare, and I would doubt the filter on your car has such a flaw.
BUT...Fram Extra/Tough Guard filters are junk for the money. Only Fram worth a darn is the Extended Guard (metal endcaps, synth media, stout can).

The Motorcraft filters are the same price or cheaper...and WORLDS better in terms of construction and quality when compared to the Extra/Tough guard Fram's. I would use them with confidence.

Well I usually use WIx filters but happened to have the fram from an oil/filter special at the local parts store so I decided to use it. I knew Frams were [censored] to begin with (thanks to this forum!!)but the video was like...ugh.....

While I agree that fram tough and extra guard filters are not worth the money and are sub-par in general; they are not like strapping a time bomb to your car as people would want you to believe. Neither of the cars in your sig are high performance so I really don't see an issue with using the fram filter unless you are just flooring the gas everywhere you go.

Motorcraft are good filters and the ones made by purolator are different from the regular purolator filters in that they have the bypass in a different (and arguably better depending on what angle the filter is attached) location as per Ford's specification.

With gas prices they way they are, there will be no flooring here.

Leave it there.

There is nothing especially "bad" about FRAM filters. Your car will not disassemble itself if you use one. The only thing "wrong" with them is that they are priced too high for their quality. IOW, you can buy better-made filters for the same money.

Yeah, like I said earlier, the fram was leftover from a oil/filter deal at an auto parts store. I still have a few Wix filters from my last online order so I'll use those in the future.

Thanks everyone.
