Hi guys,

two questions for ya. Who makes gear oil for NAPA, and is it completely LSD compatible.

On the bottle it says fine for use in both conventional and LSD differentials. Just not sure if it needs additive. It'd be REALLY nice if it didnt.

thanks,

Ryan

But you realize NAPA is big enough to go to Valvoline and get them to make it to any spec they want. In fact they probably bid out their spec to several companies and pick the cheapest.

Valvoline makes the motor oil for NAPA also if you ever want a quality discount oil.

It can't be cheap oil. I know a guy here in town who has 225,000 miles on his Chevy truck and ALL he has ever run in it is NAPA 5w30 and NAPA Gold filters.

I was not inferring it was cheap oil. Just because Valvoline makes it does not guarantee its great oil. It probably is as NAPA has a reputation to keep and would not want people to think they sell cheap oil.

But most oil companies are capable of making great oil.

I don't mean to imply that the Napa brand is every bit as good as Valvoline. I'm just saying that it's a decent oil at a discount price.

huh?

you guys have me freaked out now lol. Is it okay stuff. It wasnt too expensive if I had to ditch it.

I can find Havoline as well as quaker state conventional. OH, and Castrol Hypoy AND motomaster at canadian tire, but its a bit more, and probably all the same with all the same ratings.

And also consider that Exxon/Mobil and BP are the only companies with huge refineries to make the base stock. But clearly Valvoline nor Pennzoil nor Castrol have refineries. They buy the base stock by the railroad tanker car.

Donald-Napa doesn't bid out their gear oil, transmission fluid, or motor oil contract; all are supplied by Valvoline. They do bid out our Napa branded hydraulic oils(tractor & RO type)-supplier changes quite often between Quaker Supreme and Warren Oil. Never had a problem with either. We do carry Valvoline hydraulic oils for customers that want a name brand product.

Napa gear oil part# 75-210(80-90wt) is made by Valvoline. How do I know this? Been working for them(Napa) for 28 years running/buying for an independent 5 store group. Our Napa Oil (motor, transmission & gear oil) are delivered with name brand Valvoline oils on their company trucks once a month. It is a quality gear oil; use it with confidence.

If any of you have any Napa questions-fire away. I will do my best to answer them.

Dave

Question, I have 2 Yamaha ATVs, i am changing the oil and the book calls for 20w40, can I use 1 10w50 or other weight as the local shops do not have 20w40?

At one time Napa was manufactured/bottled by Ashland...but that was quite a few years ago. I'm not even sure Ashland exists anymore, and it may have been "acquired" by one of the larger oil companies.

As bmod said, I'd use 15W40 diesel oil.

Where in the world did you get this bogus information? Pennzoil had several refineries before Shell bought them and Shell has one of the largest, if not the largest refineries in North America.

And what you said about Castrol use to be true, but in case you do not know it, Castrol is now owned by BP.
