Who is using ATF in your power steering system?

So I think I have read the whole thread - but haven't heard of anyone mentioning what is the difference between PSF and ATF? Possibly more additives in ATF?

My Nissan manuals tell me I can use Nissan PSF or Dex6. The Dex6 is interesting given Nissan transmission use Nissan matic whatever, depending on the generation.

I have used Dex6 mostly. I did have to replace the power steering pump on my Xterra shortly before 400K. It was wining a bit, especially when cold. I am going to say the fluid likely hadn't been the issue - but who knows - maybe PSF would have taken it to 500K?

My Toyota has NAPA Dex III as the manual suggests. However I have used RP Max-EZ in it previously and it worked well.

The redline website shows atf for power steering in my application when I filter by vehicle. They sell a psf too.

I just put M1 ATF (the stuff that AutoZone clearanced a few years ago because it's not rated for DexVI/Merc LV) in an '01 Wrangler. Works great

I have an 08’Silverado with 170,000 miles running the original FF fluid with no issues. Did add a small amount of MotorKote oil additive to it when new. Has never leaked a drop of fluid.

Along with an oil change, I did a drain/fill of the reservoir with Redline D4. Its been a while since I've done this and I think I'll do another in a couple weeks.

Daughter's CRV gets Honda PSF when I do a vacuum and refill. No clue what shop used when they replaced the steering rack. After rack replacement it got 2 pints of AAP or Autozone "Shop Pro" or something Honda equivalent that smelled like swamp a$$ when a rusted metal line decide to start leaking pretty quickly. New line installed and new Honda OEM PSF so mixed with whatever. It has had I think 3-4 vacuum and refill since then with OEM Honda.

Son's Forte gets Valvoline Maxlife ATF. Calls for I think SP-III = Dex 3 on the cap/manual. That gets 1x per year vacuum and refill.

Tucson, Accord and Pilot are electric. I don't recall on the Renegade.

Im running Pentosin CHF 202 in my 2021 Tacoma that specs Dex 3 and have been for over 200'000kms

Long story short, I have tons left over from my time at GM replacing lines and changing fluid under warranty. It was $66/Litre locally back in 2021. When I run out I'll most likely go to ATF unless I find a reasonable source for the fluid when I run out... I have about a dozen cans still so I have years before I have to revisit my fluid choice.

I use Valvoline Maxlife ATF in my 2001 Chevy Blazer power steering. It operates really nicely, and doesn’t make any noise. GM actually recommends “power steering fluid”, but I just use atf, and it’s honestly better with atf in my opinion.

I just suck out a quart and add new quart of atf about every 6 months just to keep it maintained.

Thanks - been a while since I even looked. I think I went AMSOIL just so it would be clear and not red, allowing me to see if it was getting dirty. The OEM fill was clear, so, I wonder what, exactly, Toyota puts in there…
Factory fill is Toyota power steering fluid minus red dye atf has in it
