I think the problem is, like with so many other things, many people don't practice moderation. American diets and lifestyles are often filled with extremes, and that's where so many people get into trouble.

Just eat a common sense, balanced diet free from fast and processed foods. Don't drink soda pop or stuff your face with chips and junk foods. Keep lots of fresh fish, fruits, vegetables and grains in your diet, don't smoke, and get loads of exercise each day. Don't do anything to an excess, stay away from the latest supplement fad, and you'll be much healthier than you are now.

Your diet makes you "smarted"? As in the past tense of "smart"?

Sorry

..smarter!

All the wild fad diets may be great... for you.

But we are all different. Each of us has a very unique body chemistry and needs differing levels of all that is made available to us in the 'land of plenty'.

What heals you could kill me.

SteveSTR8, IF you are referring to me, I don't eat a wild fad diet, if you're not, ok....

....I live a lifestyle that excludes what I now know my body does not want and cannot tolerate. I've armed myself with the knowledge of why I cant tolerate these things. I've done it for 4 years now, the only thing that changed was that from loosing my father to cancer at the age of 54, I knew I had to change, to listen to my body and stop listening to 99% of "doctors", to stop using genetics as an excuse and get well. to stop being a slave to my conditioning & upbringing about what i 'should/shouldn't" eat...loosing 35 lbs, getting rid of depression and gaining mental clarity changes everything!

Regarding body chemistry, we are not so uniquely different, we all have exactly the same in that the blood and interstitial fluids need to be kept slightly alkaline at pH 7.365. Understanding what the buffering systems of the body go thru to maintain that pH within a tight tolerance is key.

eating a plant based diet would not kill anyone and there is growing evidence both clinical and scientific that shows that its better for all of us, and that its far less taxing on the ecosystem.

Dr.Otto Heinrich Warburg was given a Nobel prize in 1931 for proving that cancer cannot live in an alkaline body. It far more than hype. Its life changing and the knowledge is spreading fast.

Fact is, we cannot be alkaline eating meat, wheat, dairy, sugar, alcohol...a very small percentage of us get away with it. The rest, at some point become ill to some degree and quality of life lessens.

Its not that i want to live to be 130 yrs old, im more concerned with the quality of my minutes, hours and days, to not be depressed is huge for me, especially without depending on acidic, toxic drugs to be this way. I havent be "sick" in 4 years. I feel and look younger now at 38 than i did at 30.

we are all on our own life path, like M.L.K. said, we just gotta figure out how to walk the earth like brothers and sisters!.

Sincerely.

Please do not misunderstand me... there is a great deal of conjecture in your comments.

I simply wanted to make clear that NO diet is universal in its benefits.

I am glad you found something that works well for you. Best of luck to you and good health!

I need to cut back. I am good with one cup here and there, more than that and it plummets my blood sugar, I eat too much, etc. Just sensitive to it. Best sleep I ever had was when I quit for two weeks. It has a 4 hour half life so if you drink more than a cup in the AM it's pretty much constantly in your body effecting sleep whether obvious or not.

I had these exact same symptoms, with mild headaches occurring on the weekends (when I wasn't drinking nearly as much coffee). Switching down to a "half caff" mix of coffee at work eliminated my symptoms completely.

It's been about ten days and I love being caffeine free, it's good to prove to myself that I can be free of my persistent vice from childhood. The only thing I wish for is that caffeine-free drinks were more prevalent.

There was huge uproar years ago when Mountain Dew tried to introduce caffein e into lemonade down under.

Only colas were allowed caffeine, as they came in as "medicinals".

The arguments that the industry used were utterly amazing.

Caffeine wasn't there as a drug, stimulant, or anything, just to enhance "flavour" and experience"

Thank goodness they never relented, and it's only cola and "energy" drinks that hook people up.

I have backed off on my caffeine intake when I started to have trouble getting to sleep. I used to drink too much coffee, have a soda with lunch and dinner and I finally realized that this wasnt a good thing for me anymore. I still have a cup of coffee in the morning(and sometimes two) I will have a soda with lunch but after lunch, I switch to water only. An added benefit to feeling more relaxed in the late evening was the fact that I lost about 3 lbs when I backed off the soda.

I use to be a consume a lot of caffeinated beverages but have for several years now cut it down to no more than one in the morning.

It's amazing how much caffeine improves the taste of some beverages though. Caffeine-free Coke doesn't taste anything like regular Coke, and decaffeinated coffee and tea is horrible.

I never started. I do enjoy a coke, and it does provide some pick-up if needed on a long day.

I didnt like the idea of all the acids from too much soda intake, nor did I want to be reliant on any substance to feel good.

i go in cycles between coffey and tea... prob 3x day. will have one for a few weeks then the other. can't say it keeps me up or has ever woken me up.

On a Mexico trip about 20 years ago I quit unintentionally for several days. No coffee, no sodas, just beer and water. On the second or third day, I got a headache, it got worse and worse and by the next day I was just laying in bed in extreme agony. My group was getting concerned, and my brother asked if i drink a lot of caffeine at home. I said yes, he said caffeine withdrawals. He made me a strong cup of coffee and within about a half hour I went from a quivering, debilitated, lump in bed to feeling fine.
