I love the beach.
Just got back from a week in Galveston and will go back for more next month.
Give me an umbrella and chair and I am set for the rest of the day.
I spend the day looking for shells and stuff.Very relaxing to me and wife.
We are both retired now with time for us.
Mountains are boring to me after the initial beauty wears off.

My wife and I love beach vacations! This year we went to Varadero Cuba, it had one of the best beaches we've ever seen! We also love to visit Marco Island beach at least once a year too. This December we've rented a home for a week in Sarasota and it's about a 15 minute drive from one of our favorite beaches, Siesta Key Beach. There is just something so calming about the sound of the ocean waves, and walking in the sand. It's paradise to me!

That's true. People mostly over 40 or 50 whose only exercise that month was the walk from the parking lot to the beach.

All of these are nice beaches, but only in the wrong season.
The ideal beach trip, to wife and I involves somewhere warm when here weather here sucks.
I'm thinking either coast of Mexico or the Caribbean during the winter season here.
OTOH, a spring or summer trip to an Atlantic coast beach is very nice.
IMHO, you can't really go wrong with a beach.

Grew up in the northeast, less than a mile from the beach, we went there often in the two summer months
Been working in the big city for decades, but until recently kept a second home near my hometown, spent most weekends there
Now in process of retiring in south florida, have a condo a few blocks from the ocean.

Life is a vacation, do what you enjoy as often as possible! For me and the Missus, the beach is a huge part of that. Living far away from the beach is not an option.

Been on the beaches in Aruba, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Bahamas, Virginia Beach, Jacksonville / Ponte Vedra, Panama City, Cancun, Progreso, and most recently, Galveston. Grand Cayman takes any award I would be giving away. I've never seen water so clear and blue in my life, and the "swim with the stingrays" excursion was an experience I won't soon forget. Jamaica and Nassau, Bahamas are close runners-up.

Aruba's Renaissance Hotel & Casino has quite a beautiful beach on their private island. I snapped this picture when I was there in 2000. The flamingos just run around with the people on the beach. Check it out if you're looking abroad for your next beach adventure. We had a great time.

Spent 10 years on Guam. Beautiful beaches, back in the 80's, you could go to the beaches anytime and feel safe and have a good time. Now, that's all changed from what my friends tell me that are still there. It was pretty nice driving to work everyday and seeing the ocean and beaches. Moved to Oklahoma from there, no beaches. Didn't really miss it until I went TDY to Hilton Head SC. That salt air smell sucked me in and all those beach memories came flooding back and realized how much I missed being on a beach. That was a 16 hour drive from here to Hilton Head. The last three years, we've been going to Port Aransas, TX. Not very touristy and you can actually drive right on the beach. About a 10 hour drive. Love it there. We rent out a condo for a week, around 1200 dollars. Full kitchen and all that so we bring most of our food and buy lots of red snapper and shrimp and cook at the condo. I'll say this as compared to Hilton Head, the tides in the Gulf are a lot easier to deal with than the Atlantic. Tides in the Gulf may change a couple of feet, at Hilton Head, you had to really watch the charts because your spot could be underwater within an hour or two.

My favorite by far has been Wakiki beach in Hawaii! I've seen many and love them all but its hard to beat Hawaii's private beaches!

But I have this right in my back yard, even though it isn't a "beach" its a small piece of heaven and fresh water! I'm kayaking out there about every weekend.

Not a beach vacation person, personally. While I enjoy a few hours at one (or a day, at most), I'm more of the type that needs a vacation after a vacation.

Just spent two weeks on a trip in in Europe in which we flew into Frankfurt, drove to Cologne, in and out of the Netherlands, drove south to Rust, over to Munich, up to Bamberg and back out of Frankfurt. Hitting up seven amusement parks, endless amounts of breweries, sightseeing, etc… Walking some 130 miles over those two weeks and driving well over 1,000 miles. Was amazing!
