I seem to remember one of the bigger hardware stores advertizing that they would take in other tool brands in exchange for their own.

Anybody remember who it was?

I found a busted SK ratchet in the street this morning along with a deep 13mm Snap-On socket. Nobody locally has SK and I dont want to goof with sending it in only to have them deny it.

Was hoping to trade it in one any other brand to throw that one in my off road tools bag.

You used to be able to trade in certain brands at Home Depot in exchange for their Husky brand. But, that was when they were trying to get established as a hand tool supplier and their tools were good. Now their tool section is a joke, as are their tools. I am not sure if they still do the exchange thing.

S.K. is on the brink of going out of business according to a current thread at garagejournal.com (unsubstantiated internet rumor).

Hey you found my snap on socket. Ill take that back now

I haven't looked recently, but when the husky first came out the open end and combo wrenches appeared to be made by the samer supplier as craftsman.

If you have not looked at husky tools lately you are not missing much unless you like chinese tools. Danahar makes kobalt and craftsman tools.

Based on some internet "facts":

-Husky Wrench Company started in the early 1920's
-It went through many ownership changes and was acquired by Stanley in 1986.
- * "In 1992, Stanley began supplying the Husky brand exclusively to The Home Depot, and sometime later transferred the rights to the name to Home Depot."
- ** Stanley had the Craftsman contract until about 1994, when Danaher took over.

There may have been a year or two of overlap when Stanley was making both Husky and Craftsman. Husky never "made" Craftsman tools.
