I’ve always named my cars. Anyone else do this? I just read about Jeffkeryk’s Edna. Here’s my list:

Benjamin (Benny) - 1959 VW Bug (25hp)
Horatio - 1967 VW Bug
Wolfgang-1986 VW GTI
Henry - 1988 Civic SI
Cesar - 1966 VW Bug
????? - 1989 Toyota 4cyl pickup (I forget the name). Great little truck.
Old Blue - 1996 Tacoma
The Black Car - 1998 BMW M3
Speedy-Bomb - 2012 Honda Fit

Not really a "name my vehicle" type of guy, but they do seem to pick up names.

JDM Land Cruiser Prado, girlfriend calls it Elsie for obvious reasons.
GMT400 dually sometimes gets called Moby Richard, except I use the D word. It's a big white whale of a truck and named after the Herman Melville novel. Hasn't killed me yet, but does get 8.9mpg and gas went to $5.70/gal not long after I bought it.

A few years back a female friend named the pickup truck I owned at the time after herself. It was an embarrassing number of years later when I realized just what she meant when she said "Go take (her own name) for a drive." Right over my head, but in my defense I had a girlfriend at the time and extracurricular activities weren't on my radar at all.

My wife named her 2018 CRV "Sassy." She asked me what my 03 Civic's name was. I thought for a minute before replying, "Brent." Now the more I look at my old beater, the more it actually looks like a "Brent".

Not typically. Maybe as a joke as a teen, but not for a while.

But I did wind up naming my '99 Camry. Going into covid, the school went into lockdown. Then the following year they could go back, but we elected to drive our kids rather than taking the bus. One morning, I tried to goad the kids into having an opinion: did they want mom to drive them in the new car, or did they want to ride with dad in... the loser twenty year old car? Anything to get them to have an opinion, a preference, a care.

And after that, the car was known as Losermobile.

Still sad over that one (daughter flipped it, but walked away, so it did its job).

That’s funny! The name, not the accident. Looked like the loser was not such a bad car after all.

I don't name them but some have been called names that we don't say here.
Anyone remember the name Steve Martin's character gave the dog in The Jerk? I guarantee someone has given their car the same name.

Mine are 'Paidfor', (1-4)

This question reminds me of a western movie line. A boy asks a dusty trail cowboy, "Mister what's your horse's name"? The man answers, "Kid, you don't give a name to something you might have to eat."

Only old POS's. I had a turquoise 57 chevy that we named "Crystal Blue Persuasion".

I feel a connection to Benny, your 1959 VW Bug. 🤔

I’ve always referred to my vehicles as She/her, the proper way for a captain to reference their ship. (Fortunately, my vehicles haven’t been as temperamental as most women.) 😉
