Which spec for best protection? Mercedes M264 engine

I just purchased a used 2021 C300 with the M264 engine. The the owners supplement says I may use MB 229.51, MB 229.52, MB 229.61 and MB 229.71. I found a API SP 229.51/52 approved 0w40 (Mobil 1 ESP X4 0w40) and was thinking to use it instead of the 229.71 spec 0w20. Which would give me more protection? Its a US spec car, so unsure if there is a GPF on it or not. I'm willing to sacrifice a little fuel economy if I can get more protection. Ambient temps here range from 50F-100F throughout the year. Your choice of Mobil 1 0W-40 is perfect. Even if it has a GPF, 229.51/229.52 is low SAPS so is fine for a GPF anyway and has better wear protection than any 0W-20

50-100 you could even try any MB spec'd 5w-40 as well. But that is a good bit higher grade than a 20 so it should certainly help over many thousands of miles for this newer engine. Nice ride!

There is the Motul Xclean gen2 5w40 that is 229.52, I'm between the motul and the mobil 1.

I’m running the X3 right now and will go to X4 in my Mazda for fun. I think it’s perfect for your application. What’s not to like about a 3.8 HTHS 0W-40 with high VI and good low temp behavior.

There is the Motul Xclean gen2 5w40 that is 229.52, I'm between the motul and the mobil 1.

I'm not seeing that product. I do see a gen 2 229.65 but that isn't the spec you need.

Mobil has rebates at least once if not twice a year if you want to buy cheaper.

You'll gain more head room with the 0w40 but it doesn't mean your engine will wear faster on the 0w20. Wear is application and oil temp dependent so unless you're tracking the car the engine is not likely to reveal a difference in wear.

Remember your vehicle has a heat exchanger so unless your cooling system has insufficient capacity then your oil temps should remain within the goldilocks window for a 20 grade regardless of outside temps.
